I am told you need private health care to get residencia. What companies do people use and what is cost? Cool

Hi,  we used Asisa, they are relatively cheap at less than €100 for us both but it does depend on age. You must also have €6000 in a Spanish bank account,  good luck

The Money in the bank is any bank, any currency equivalent to €6,000. It doesn't have to be in a Spanish bank or even in euros.

This 90 days out of 180 Schengen thing is gonna cause probs for some people. We intended to winter out there for 4 months at a time but that now looks unlikely without going for Residencia. Complete pain in the a** ☹️☹️

Well, it is my understanding that this has always been the case, but pre Brexit they mostly seemed to turn a blind eye to over staying without residencia.

Welcome to the forum Martin!

Here's a short list of Spnish insurance companies:

Bupa Global

Liberty Seguros
Verti
Axa
Linea Directa
MMT Seguros
Reale Seguros
Fexix Directo
Click Seguros
Pelayo
DKV
Prebal

HNA
Aegon
Asefa Seguros

Unfortunately I won't be able to give you the cost but a rule of thumb is 75 - 120 euro per month for a couple aged between 50 & 60 years.

You should also consider (more expensive) full European health care plan to cover your trips back to the UK.

Also, don't forget the helpful Residencia Guide and other topics in the Health and Paperwork category.
