Radio Sintonia:
3,600 kilos of hashish carried by a sailboat in waters near the Canary Islands seized.
Agents of the National Police, in a joint operation with officials of Customs Surveillance of the Tax Agency, have intercepted and boarded, in waters near the Canary Islands, a 15-metre long sailboat flying the Spanish flag that was carrying approximately 3,600 kilos of hashish.
The boarding was carried out by the Special Operations Vessel 'Petrel' for Customs Surveillance and in the course of the operation the four crew members were arrested, a Bulgarian citizen, an Italian and two Moroccans.
The packages, weighing 36 kilos and of the usual type for transporting narcotic substances, were piled up inside the sailboat and visible to the naked eye. The way the sailboat sailed and its course led to the decision to carry out a routine reconnaissance that concluded with the detection of the drug.
Yesterday, the ship 'Petrel' arrived at the port of La Luz and Las Palmas to, in collaboration with the National Police, proceed to unload the drugs and bring the detainees to justice.
The operation has been directed and coordinated by the Anti-Drug Prosecutor's Office of the National High Court and both the detainees, the boat and the narcotic substance will be handed over to the Central Court of Instruction number 4, which hears the case.
