He fished in Fuerteventura with a recreational boat and dispatched it as a catch from a professional boat that was moored at the Arguineguín pier
The Civil Guard of Fuerteventura has denounced on September 18 the owner of a professional fishing boat for carrying out fishing activities in Fuerteventura waters using a recreational boat. The Civil Guard intercepted an isothermal van with 294 kilos when it was embarking at the Morro Jable dock, using a sales document that falsely indicated that it had been captured with its professional boat, which was docked in the port of Arguineguín.
This operation is the result of the constant surveillance carried out by the Fuerteventura Maritime Detachment on the island's coast in coordination with the main posts of Morro Jable and Puerto Rico.
The Events occurred on September 18, during a preventive surveillance in the area of Punta de Jandía, the Civil Guard Patrol boat observed a recreational boat that seemed to have caught a large amount of fish. Given the orography and distance that prevented a direct disembarkation, the Morro Jable Main Post was alerted so that a patrol could inspect the vehicles embarking on the ferry bound for Gran Canaria.
Police coordination
The Civil Guard of Morro Jable immediately identified a driver of an isothermal van transporting several boxes of fish with ice at the control of passengers and vehicles embarking in Morro Jable. Once its cargo and the transport document were checked, the total weight was 287 kilos of assorted fish, including snappers, urtas, amberjacks, groupers, cabrillas and abaes.

However, in the document, it was indicated that the catches had been made by a third-list (professional) vessel whose base port is Arguineguín. Given the suspicions that the fish could come from the guarded recreational boat, the Civil Guard of the Maritime Detachment of Fuerteventura carried out the necessary steps to verify at that time what the location of the boat was.
To this end, the Main Post of Puerto Rico was immediately contacted, which confirmed that the professional ship was indeed docked in the Port of Arguineguín. This made it clear that it was impossible for the ship to have unloaded in Morro Jable (as stated in the transport document) and then found itself in the port of Arguineguín, when the distance between the two ports for a vessel of this type can take about 7 hours to travel.
The fish was finally transported to the Fishermen's Guild of Castillo del Romeral (Gran Canaria). According to the sales notes, the quantities of each species mostly coincide exactly with those of the transport document, justifying a total of 294 kg of fish.
This operation was carried out thanks to the principle of collaboration and Police coordination between the Fuerteventura Maritime Detachment, the Morro Jable Main Post and the Arguineguín Main Post.
Possible penalties of 60 thousand to 600 thousand euros
Article 105 of Law 33/2014, on State maritime fishing in its section 1), cites the possible sanctions, among which are the pecuniary penalty; impossibility of obtaining loans, subsidies or public aid; seizure of the vessel and/or temporary immobilization of the vessel.
Article 106 states: "Very serious infringements will be sanctioned with a pecuniary penalty of 60,001 to 600,000 euros." Pecuniary penalties shall be imposed on the basis of reasons in the minimum, medium or maximum degrees in accordance with, inter alia, the following criteria:
a) Economic benefit that the alleged offender obtains or expects to obtain as a result of the infringement committed.
b) Size and power of the vessel.
c) Nature of the damage caused, especially to the seabed, ecosystems and living organisms, economic resources, public domain or third party property or impact on areas with environmental or fisheries protection.
d) Possibility of restitution for the damage caused as a result of the commission of the infringement.
