ALDI arrives in Puerto del Rosario.
ALDI continues to advance in its expansion plan in the Canary Islands, where it plans to open more than ten supermarkets until the end of the year (in Tenerife, Gran Canaria, Fuerteventura and Lanzarote) and more than 20 in the next three years.
From the moment of its opening, the new ALDI supermarkets on the islands will have about 330 items of Canarian origin, such as fresh products, dairy, beverages, frozen and cosmetics, among others, from more than 40 Canarian producers.
Specifically, in the case of the Canary Islands, 20% of the ALDI assortment will be from suppliers from the islands. In addition, about 100 products will be identified with the seal 'I am Canarian', a label created especially by the supermarket chain to guarantee customers that the product is made in the Canary Islands or originates in the islands, and to value ALDI's trust in local producers.
For fresh produce, the company will work with several farmers' cooperatives and rancher groups in the archipelago. Thus, the fresh (fruit, vegetables, meat and fish) that consumers can buy in Canarian stores come mostly from local suppliers.
Dairy products will also have a great presence in supermarkets, where you can find more than 90 varieties of cheeses of different origins and in various formats and textures. In the Canary Islands, consumers will also find on the shelves a wide assortment of Canarian cheeses, almogrotes and cottage cheese made on different islands of both provinces.
ALDI will also market other types of products made in the Canary Islands, among which are a wide assortment of mojos and sauces typically Canarian, such as mojos of different types and in different formats, spicy canarian, ketchup, mustard or aioli.
As for beverages, island consumers will find about 35 Canarian items, including water, soft drinks, juices or alcoholic beverages, which include local brands recognized by consumers of the archipelago.
In the coming years, the company plans to incorporate more local Canarian products in its usual assortment, both for the supermarkets that will open soon in the Canary Islands, and for the rest of the stores on the peninsula.
ALDI's own brand, part of the success of its discount model
Canarian suppliers will also have their role in ALDI's own brand assortment, one of the company's hallmarks and part of the success of its business model based on discounting. Currently, 89% of the company's assortment is made up of own brand products, which allow customers to offer items of the best quality at the lowest possible price.
