Radio Sintonia:

Environment denounces two people for the capture and cutting of a hammerhead shark in Fuerteventura.

The agents of Environment of the Cabildo of Fuerteventura have denounced two people for the capture, cutting and amputation of fins of a specimen of hammerhead shark (Sphyrna Zygaena), an endangered species protected by law and cataloged as vulnerable by the International Union for the Conservation of Nature.

It was the warning of a citizen to 112 that allowed the agents of Environment to act immediately. Upon receiving the notice, members of this body of agents moved to the scene of the Events, in Playa de Esquinzo de Jandía, an area that is also classified as special protection.

The area of Environment of the Cabildo, directed by Carlos Rodríguez, appreciates the citizen collaboration that has allowed to detect and transfer this practice to the competent authorities.

The Environment Service calls on citizens to respect endangered species, stressing that their capture entails administrative sanctions. In addition, from the insular institution, the maximum respect for the regulations that regulate endangered species, endemic flora and closed times is emphasized.
