Radio Sintonia:

The Civil Guard in Fuerteventura saves the life of little Elliot.

The patrol of the Civil Guard of the Main Post Morro Jable (Pájara) in Fuerteventura providing prevention service of Citizen Security helped a little one on the afternoon of July 9 while he was with his family enjoying the summer holidays.

The Civil Guards in the exercise of their functions in the town of Costa Calma (Pajara) were alerted by the security guard of a hotel in the town, indicating that a baby was suffocating.

The agents rushed to the scene and found a woman in the lobby of the hotel very nervous with a baby in her arms, while she blurted out that her baby was not breathing.
Before the Events that occurred, the Civil Guard begins a small exploration of the baby and observes that it presents a bluish tone, as well as body stiffness, swelling in the stomach and a severe effort to try to breathe without being able to achieve it.

For all these reasons, the Civil Guards begin the Heimlich maneuver, accompanied by a turn of the baby that together with a small pressure on the area of the scapula, manage to expel the minor by nasal and buccal route, abundant viscous liquid, thus recovering a good skin tone and disappearing the rigidity that the stomach area presented.
After all the maneuvers carried out by the agents to save the baby's life, Elliot returned to calm and began to breathe relatively normally once the minutes of absolute nervousness had passed.

This action was vital to stabilize the baby and save his life. After the same, a doctor who was staying at the hotel itself appeared at the place, and gave a series of guidelines until finally the ambulance of the Canary Islands Emergency Service arrived. The medical services approved the way of proceeding by the Agents, who also received congratulations from the mother for the work provided by the Agents.

Radio Sintonia:

Euphoric, satisfied and proud after saving the life of little Elliot.

Carlos Carpintero and Dácil del Cristo, the Civil Guards of Fuerteventura who saved the life of little Elliot last weekend, have gathered today the media in front of The Morro Jable Main Post and explained that on the afternoon of July 9 they were doing a routine patrol service and the security guard of a hotel informed them that a baby was suffering a choking in the hall. When they arrived, a mother told them, very nervously, that her baby was drowning and they decided that they had to act fast. They proceeded to practice the Heimlich maneuver and begin to see how the child begins to breathe better and improve his color. They then contact 112 and the medical services for instructions on how to continue assisting the child.

At the time of the performance, as they transfer, they assessed that the emergency department was going to take a few minutes and the baby's symptoms were increasing, so they decided that they had to act quickly. We did it "the best we knew with the health knowledge we have because we are not professionals" they declared this morning before the media.

The Civil Guards assure that "saving the life of a baby is not something routine or that happens every day, it is an exception" and that they are not considered heroes but simply it is "the ability we have to contribute to society and help". "The most important thing is the satisfaction of the duty fulfilled, a positive word from the components of your unit and the pride of your family, friends and the people around you," says Carlos Carpintero.

For his part, Dácil del Cristo believes that the Heimlich maneuver should be taught in schools and institutes, that choking is something that can occur in any family and it is important to have some basic notions of first aid to be able to help.
Both Dácil del Cristo and Carlos Carpintero are euphoric, satisfied and proud after what happened, very happy to save a life. They assure that they have engraved the image of the baby, of his gaze and the happiness of his mother, a memory that they will have forever.
