Radio Sintonia:

Fuerteventura extends its bus service from November 28.

The Ministry of Transport of theCabildo de Fuerteventurareports that it is working to improve the interurban transport service on the island. From this area of the island corporation and the concessionaire Tiadhe, public transport services are expanded in order to respond to the saturation of certain frequencies of some of the lines that have the largest number of passengers.

The problems that have long presented the transport of passengers by bus on the island, has also been increased with the situation of economic crisis derived from the increase in energy and fuel costs, which has caused a greater influx of passengers. To this is added the new bonus implemented since last September in the Canarian resident bonds, retiree, for disabled people and the student bonus.

Due to the situation, from the Ministry of Transport alternatives have been sought with the incorporation of new buses during this month of November and upcoming whose arrival is expected in the month of December.

With the arrival of the first of the buses, it has been possible to add new services and the modification of existing ones, in order to respond to this need. This reinforces the lines with the largest number of passengers, services at the airport, as well as those most demanded by neighborhood groups and workers. These demands include those of students who use line 3 that leaves from Las Salinas to Puerto del Rosario in the mornings.

The Ministry moves that with the incorporation of upcoming buses will gradually improve the regular passenger transport service, improvements that have been delayed due to the current energy crisis and freight transport, which is causing the delay of the arrival of the new buses.

Tuineje asks for reinforcement in the buses in the early hours of the day

Delays in the journeys and long queues mean that many people are unable to get on the bus due to lack of space and arrive late for work.

The City Council of Tuineje claims to the Cabildo of Fuerteventura a reinforcement in the insular service of buses due to the high demand of users in the early hours of the day, which causes large daily queues, and that leaves many people out of the bus due to lack of space in them, who have to wait for the next one to arrive.

This situation forces people to get up early, to be able to use the services of bus line 1, in the direction of Morro Jable, from six and seven in the morning, to be able to take a place in the vehicles and avoid being late for their workdays.

The mayor of Tuineje, Esther Hernández, explained that "this problem causes daily queues of a large number of people at different bus stops in the municipality, and, repeatedly, many of these people who were waiting, have not been able to make use of the service because the capacity allowed in the vehicles is exceeded, seeing the arrival at their respective jobs delayed. "

"From the City Council of Tuineje we demand the Cabildo de Fuerteventura to adapt transport services to repair a problem that is not now, but long ago, in which the demand for buses is higher than the offer of services of insular public transport, on which many people depend to get to their jobs, training and even health centers," adds Hernández.

In this way, the Municipal Corporation calls for an improvement in the bus service, especially on line 1, in the early hours of the morning, which is when it experiences a greater influx of passengers on the Puerto del Rosario-Morro Jable route, leaving many people out of service, as well as asking that the service be reinforced in the return itinerary.

Fleet improvement

On the other hand, an improvement in the fleet of vehicles is also required, since there are continuous delays in the journeys of buses due to the deterioration they suffer, especially with problems of opening and closing the doors, causing the delay of the route.
"The need to reinforce the bus service is more than evident due to the high demand of users who queue, often being unable to get on the buses due to lack of space, and causing them problems to get to their jobs," seconded the municipal councilor for Transport, Christofer Jaime.

Radio Sintonia:

The bus service of Fuerteventura will increase its frequencies from March 1.

The Cabildo of Fuerteventura transfers that the Public Transport Service of Fuerteventura has made various adjustments in the planning of its bus lines in order to offer greater frequencies that serve as a reinforcement to the increase in users registered by the service as a result of the implementation of the bonus that allows free travel on the island.

After the meeting held last week between the concessionaire of the Service and the Minister of Transport, Accessibility and Sustainable Mobility of the Cabildo de Fuerteventura, Juan Nicolás Cabera, the "commitment" has been reached by the successful bidder to "replace the current fleet with new vehicles, always within the framework of the conditions established by the current concession contract".

A contract that, as detailed by the insular president, Sergio Lloret, "due to its seniority is not suitable to fully adapt to the conditions of the requirements of the island of Fuerteventura today".

In this sense, Lloret hopes that these adaptations made "within the limitations of this contractual framework, allow us to improve, as far as possible, the service to adapt it to the needs of the population", not without recalling that, "the definitive solution of the existing problems on the island inevitably passes through the drafting of a new concession contract", says Lloret.

During the meeting between Juan Nicolás Cabrera and the concessionaire of the service, the latter also highlighted the problem, derived from the crisis due to the war in Ukraine, which currently exists when acquiring both new buses to replace the fleet, as well as repair parts for vehicles.

Even with this, the concessionaire and the insular administration have agreed to "give viability to all those modifications that are possible, incorporating new services in order to respond to the saturation that is occurring in certain frequencies of some lines with a greater number of passengers," explained Cabrera.

Among the planned reinforcements, the needs derived from passenger traffic at the island airport have been taken into account, as well as "the demands that neighborhood groups and workers have transferred to us," said Juan Nicolás Cabrera. The final objective is "to promote the use of public transport since it is one of the main ways to continue walking in the line of environmental sustainability, reducing the emission of polluting gases into the atmosphere that multiply exponentially with the use of private vehicles".

The modifications in schedules and frequency increases agreed between the concessionaire and the Island Administration and that will enter into force as of tomorrow, Wednesday, March 1 are listed below:
