The Civil Guard seizes more than 80 kilos of cocaine in the hull of a bulk carrier.
The Civil Guard of the Fiscal Detachment of the Port of La Luz and the Special Group of Underwater Activities (GEAS), the Maritime Service of the Civil Guard in coordination with Customs Surveillance of the Tax Agency in Las Palmas, have intervened on April 10, various packages of cocaine that were housed in the submerged part of the hull of a bulk carrier from Brazil.
As a result of the monitoring and joint surveillance carried out by both the Civil Guard and the Tax Agency in the port facilities, the corresponding documentary analyses were carried out on a ship from the port of Paranagua, Brazil and it planned to continue its destination to Huelva after finishing its operations in the port of Gran Canaria.
The first indications found by the agents of the Civil Guard of the Prosecutor's and Borders Section, led to a more exhaustive inspection activating the GEAS of the Command of Las Palmas.
The specialist divers of the Civil Guard, after more than 1 hour of immersion, discovered some suspicious lumps inside a grid, appreciating that the screws that held it had been manipulated. Therefore, the compartment was opened and after cutting the ropes that secured the strange load, the agents recovered two packages hidden in a compartment in the hull.
Once extracted from the water, the appropriate checks were carried out by transferring them to the premises of the Civil Guard of Puerto de la Luz, where they tested positive for narcotics such as cocaine, weighing just over 80 kilograms as a whole, raw without wrapping or water. For all these reasons, the corresponding Police proceedings were carried out by the Fiscal Analysis and Investigation Unit, which were at the disposal of the Court of Instruction of the Guard of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria in conjunction with the substance intervened, continuing the agents with the corresponding Police investigations in order to clarify the destination and origin of the drug.
