The Government Council has authorized the Ministry of Public Works, Transportation and Housing to pay to the public entity Canarian Ports 100,000 euros as part of the improvement work on the passenger terminal of the Gran Tarajal dock and its subsequent maintenance.
Puertos Canarios has carried out in the last two years a complete reform of the terminal in order to improve the infrastructure of services provided to cruise passengers and large yachts that arrive at that port majorero. Within this reform plan, the old terminal was completely remodelled and a quality passenger station was created, adapted to the demands of cruise traffic. Subsequently, as another complement, it was considered necessary to undertake conditioning works around the terminal.
With the purpose of ordering the access of pedestrians and vehicles to the port area, the works, which are practically finished, define the environment of the new terminal, providing it with rest and transit areas for pedestrians made up of pavements and garden areas. The work was tendered for an amount of 176,728 euros, of which 100,000 euros correspond to the contribution of the Ministry within the collaboration agreement with Canary Ports.
The conditioning tasks consisted of improving the access to the port and the terminal environment, both for pedestrians and for vehicles, giving the installation a more user-friendly appearance and generally improving the aesthetics of the port, which already had 40 years.
The access road was repaved with firm asphalt and the old boathouse was conditioned to generate a parking area that covers the needs associated with the volume of vehicles generated by cruise traffic activity. The pedestrian access was consolidated as a continuation of the promenade of Gran Tarajal, until entering the port. This is divided into two branches: the first gives direct access to the terminal and continues after it until it enters the port itself, while the second runs parallel to the old pavement that delimits the port on its north face and gives continuity towards the brotherhood of fishermen and the swamp area.
