A camel and a majorero donkey give life to the La Alcogida Museum.

Museums of Fuerteventura dynamizes the Ecomuseum La Alcogida located in Tefía with the incorporation of a donkey and a camel of majorera breed that will serve to stage the traditional life of Fuerteventura and the majorero countryside. It was the children of CEIP Tefía who chose the names for these two specimens, in an activity organized in La Alcogida, finally choosing the name Timple for the donkey and Lapa for the majorera camel.
Canarian camels historically come from the African continent and became a very common animal in the daily life of the Island. They were mainly used for the hard work of the field, which modified their physiognomy, strength and bodybuilding. In addition to performing tasks such as ploughing, transport for legumes, alfalfa and tomato, among other products.

For its part, the majorero donkey is the only animal in the family of horses in the Canary Islands. This breed has been adapted to the conditions of Fuerteventura, being recognized in the Official Catalog of Cattle Breeds in Spain. Both animals have specialized daily care, as well as 24-hour veterinary service.

Museums of Fuerteventura energizes the centers and museums of the island with the aim of bringing the majorera culture in an attractive and agile way. The Ecomuseum La Alcogida hosts guided tours, demonstrations of kneaded gofio, workshops and family activities such as ginkanas. All the information can be consulted on the website of the Cabildo,cabildofuer.es.
The Ecomuseum La Alcogida takes visitors into the way of life of the majorero peasants until a few decades ago. Stone houses and gabled roofs welcome the visitor, with a route through seven houses of different architectural typologies
