Electricity price increase
#1
I have received the following email from my Electricity provider, what appears odd about it to me is despite it being a substantial increase, I have heard nothing about it previously, and I would have thought it would have been mentioned on social media before now, has anyone else received a similar communication?
"We would like to inform you about some important changes implemented by the government that will increase your electricity bill in 2025.

Please see below the government measures:

VAT increase: VAT on electricity to rise from 10% to 21% (More information here)
System charges: The government has proposed to increase bill charges by 33%. (More information here)
Energy Tolls: For some periods they have decreased but for others they have increased (more information here).

It is important to underline that Evergreen Eléctrica has no influence on these costs, which correspond only to the new charges imposed by the government"

I stand to be corrected but VAT in the Canaries is 7% as against 21% on the mainland and the article Perrypower has sent a link to doesn't mention the Canaries?

As I say correct me if I am wrong and point me to the information on it.

I think you are right, the increase of VAT (IVA) shouldn't affect us in the Canaries. However, the 2025 should bring rising prices here and there, electricity bills included. I drop below an excerpt from an article I found on the Internet.

Alza de precios en vivienda, electricidad o alimentación: estos son los impuestos que se incrementan en 2025

Electricity, telephone, and fuel: how your bill will increase

Meanwhile, for the third consecutive year, the cost of telephony will also rise. Telecommunications giants will raise their rates, citing the need to 'offset' the higher fees charged by content providers, such as movies, series, and documentaries. Movistar, for instance, will raise its prices by around three euros per month, while Vodafone will increase them by around 3%.

Along the same lines, the cost of your electricity bill will increase. Despite the Canary Islands not being affected by the 10% to 21% VAT increase on electricity - in reality, it will return to the percentage it was before the anti-crisis measures - companies are already anticipating a rate increase, although it is challenging to pinpoint the exact amount. It is estimated that, in the case of the regulated rate, it will become dependent on the futures market by up to 40%, compared to the current 25%, following the reform with which the Executive intends to contain price fluctuations.

I obviously queried this with my provider, and allegedly, it will not affect us as we live outside the mainland.
