Five young people arrested as alleged perpetrators of 10 crimes of robbery with violence in Fuerteventura

Civil Guard arrest Between May 21 and June 12, the Fuerteventura Civil Guard arrested five people between the ages of 16 and 19, allegedly responsible for a total of ten crimes of robbery with violence, eight crimes of injuries, two crimes of continued fraud, one crime of theft and one crime of damage, bringing the total amount stolen to 9,560 euros, in Caleta de Fuste (Fuerteventura). One was ordered to be imprisoned by court order, with the rest being provisionally released pending trial.

The Civil Guard was aware of the Events since last March, which observed an increase in violent robberies in the tourist area of Caleta de Fuste, a fact, that had generated a feeling of insecurity among the different merchants and tour operators in the area.

For this reason, meetings were held with said operators attended by the Island Directorate, Antigua City Council, The Civil Guard of Antigua, and Local Police. To eradicate these Events, Operational Devices were established that brought together different units of the Civil Guard of the island, with support from the Local Police, complemented by reinforcements from the USECIC of Las Palmas.

For this reason, the Puerto del Rosario Civil Guard Post began the investigation work, proceeding to view several surveillance cameras located in different areas of the towns of Caleta de Fuste and Puerto del Rosario, thus achieving identification of the alleged perpetrators, who were recognized by various witnesses.

Once all the investigations were completed, it was observed that the modus operandi was the same: the pulling of the victims, using electric scooters on many occasions to move faster, appropriating their belongings and causing injuries to the injured in several cases. As a result of one of the robberies perpetrated by the group, one of the victims had to undergo surgery.

Subsequently, after fleeing the scene of the incident, they allegedly made payments with the bank cards previously stolen from different businesses on the island of Fuerteventura.

The Civil Guard reports that as a result of the different operational devices, a point of sale of narcotic substances (cocaine) was also neutralized in the central area of Caleta de Fuste.
