'X Edition Electron FUERTEBIKE Fuerteventura 2023'
La Oliva hosts the 'X Edition Electron FUERTEBIKE Fuerteventura 2023'. La Oliva is preparing to host an exciting sporting event that combines passion for competition with commitment to sustainability.
Next Saturday, September 2, the town will host the 'X Edition Electron FUERTEBIKE Fuerteventura 2023', a mountain bike race (MTB) that will take place in the area of Morro Francisco, Corralejo. This outstanding competition is organized by Columbus Runner in collaboration with the City Council of La Oliva.
What makes this edition special is its focus on the conservation of the natural environment and surrounding biodiversity. The carefully designed courses balance competitive passion with environmental responsibility, thus marking a milestone in the history of the race.
The official inauguration of this event took place on September 1 in Morro Francisco, Corralejo. The event was attended by the Mayor of La Oliva, Isaí Blanco; the Councilor for Sports and Youth, Gleiber Carreño; the Councilor for Tourism and Environment, David Fajardo; the Councilor for Works and Services, Luis Alba; and the First Deputy Mayor, Julio Santana. Also present were representatives of the Cabildo de Fuerteventura, such as the Minister of Tourism, Marlene Figueroa; and the Minister of Sports, Luis González. In addition, Chicho Ibáñez, one of the organizers of the race, and Ramón Sierra, President of the Canarian Cycling Federation, joined the celebration.
Mayor Isaí Blanco highlighted: "We value the private promoters of FUERTEBIKE for maintaining this event for a decade in our municipality. We thank both the Cabildo and our colleagues at the City Council for their collaboration in this effort. These Events, in conjunction with Columbus Runner, strengthen our tourism appeal through sports."
Councilwoman Gleiber Carreño highlighted the 20% increase in female participation and support for the consolidated test. "We appreciate the participation and dedication of everyone involved," he said.
David Fajardo, Councilor for Tourism and Environment, said: "The 'Electrón Fuertebike' consolidates the municipality as a tourist destination that respects its environment. This symbiosis between sport and environment is an example for the Canary Islands".
Councillor Luis González congratulated Columbus Runner and underlined how the 'Electron Fuertebike' enriches both athletes and spectators alike.
Chicho Ibáñez, one of the mentors of the event, mentioned that this year a change has been implemented in the route of the race, which has generated diverse opinions among the participants. In addition, he stressed that many of them arrive days before to train and explore the beauty of the island.
The President of the Canarian Cycling Federation, Ramón Sierra, praised the 'Fuertebike' as a highlight in the Federation's Calendar and a magnet for athletes. He also highlighted the positive economic impact that this event generates in the municipality and congratulated both La Oliva and the Cabildo de Fuerteventura for their unwavering support. Sierra added that cycling tourism has experienced remarkable growth, mobilizing around 150 billion euros across Europe, especially after the pandemic.
With about 1,200 entries, the 'Electrón FuerteBike Fuerteventura 2023' is consolidated as an exciting challenge in Corralejo, highlighting the close collaboration between tourism, sport and conservation. This event reinforces the vision of the municipality to become a European benchmark in this synergy.
