Tamara: Book cover worth a look - great pic!
I so wish I'd started learning Spanish many years ago so that I could enjoy books like these. Languages don't seem to come easily to me and I despair of ever being able to properly appreciate Spanish books.

Radio Sintonia:
'Fuerteventura 1924', the island where the condemned served exile.
The Assembly Hall of the Insular Archive hosted yesterday, February 3, the presentation of the work 'Fuerteventura 1924', an investigation written by the historian Carmelo Torres, which is immersed in the exiles of Miguel de Unamuno, the Marquis of Cortina and Rodrigo Soriano in the context of an era where Fuerteventura was converted into an island where the condemned served exile.
A work about the past of Fuerteventura
Felipe Bermúdez Suarez (Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, 1944), doctor in Theology from the Comillas Pontifical University and professor emeritus of the Theological Center of Las Palmas (now ISTIC), was in charge of presenting the event, held in the Assembly Hall of the Insular Archive, after the welcome of the president of the Island Council to the author of the work.
During the presentation, the president of the Cabido de Fuerteventura, who presided over the event, Sergio Lloret wanted to highlight "the importance of promoting the creation and publication of literary works that take the island of Fuerteventura as a reference". Reason why, the publication and edition of the work has had a subsidy of 3,000 euros by the Cabildo de Fuerteventura.
A majorero historian committed to the island's past
Carmelo Torres was born in 1975 in Puerto del Rosario. He has a degree in History from the University of La Laguna. Between 2000 and 2001 he studied the International Master's Degree in Restoration and Rehabilitation of Built Heritage. He has directed projects to rescue documentary sources related to Fuerteventura in the Provincial Historical Archive of Santa Cruz de Tenerife.
This investigation seeks to approach the news about the exile that appeared in the press of the time, as well as the work that these personalities produced during their forced residences in Fuerteventura.
This book has been subsidized by the Insular Institution through the 2022 subsidy line granted by the Cabildo de Fuerteventura to individuals for the publication of works of literary creation and research of interest to the island. In this last call, 4 works have been granted, including that of Carmelo Torres Torres.
This type of subsidy is processed by the Cultural Heritage Service, through the Publications Service.
