Thanks Sam.  This is one of the most important issues the world faces right now.

They will all turn up in their cars and the island continues to use diesel power to generate electricity instead of wind power Cry

According to report on the BBC, windmills can cause more pollution than cars

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/science-environment-49567197

Everyone is jumping on this climate change bandwagon without really thinkinv though the solutions.

We need to change how we do things but NOT at the detriment of everyone's life.

I probably am going to stir a hornets nest with this comment, it is all well and good talking about fossil fuels, use of cars solar power etc but IMO there is one big issue that is over looked - Birth Control!!!  Look at the world population today compared to what it was 100 years ago, no wonder we are using so much more of the planets fragile resources to feed the ever increasing demand and need of the world population.

Rant over

You cannot argue the logic of that John, but does anyone remember the torrent of press abuse and general condemnation the Chinese Government got when it introduced its one child policy?

And there you have it.  The issue is not yet painful enough For most of us to accept we need to change our behaviour.  Easier to pick on 16 year olds, the Chinese,  the Indians and families with more than one child.

You people are deluded and dangerous.

We are not changing fast enough.  In the last 50 years per capita electrical consumption in the UK has more than doubled to 5.1 kWh per annum.  It has fallen from the peak of 6.27 in 2005 but that behaviour has been driven more by price than responsibility.  We use led bulbs now because we cannot buy incandescent.

The EU had to regulate maximum wattage of hovers because consumers and manufacturers refused to change behaviour.

And, I suspect that most of us prefer a Range Rover to a Nissan Leaf.

We are all guilty and I accept my part both in creating the problem and personal responsibility for fixing it by changing my behaviour.

In order to get this back to a positive tone, I am really interested to know what each of you is doing or planning on doing to help save the earth and reduce your carbon footprint.

Wow, Sam that is brilliant.  Every small bit of behaviour helps.
Like you we are doing the same things and try to never waste water.  Yvonne is mostly vegetarian although will on occasion have fish.  I try to avoid red meat but had steak for the first time in three months last night sadly it tasted really good.
