The Fiscal Section of the Port of La Luz of the Civil Guard and the Customs Surveillance Service of the Customs and Excise Administration, carried out on February 11 a joint service during the disembarkation of one of the ships that makes regular journeys of people and vehicles between Fuerteventura and Gran Canaria.

One of the vehicles that was selected for the verification of its cargo turned out to be transporting a significant amount of products among which were, among others, watches, caps, belts and different types of clothing.

In the course of the proceedings, it was verified how the two passengers of the vehicle could not provide at any time invoice or delivery note that would protect the lawful origin of the cargo and experience, therefore and given the expertise of the agents, this extreme made them suspect that said

products could actually be counterfeits, suspicion that was endorsed by observing that most of the products corresponded to internationally famous brands usually victims of crimes against industrial property.

For all these reasons and in order to know the origin of the cargo, it was intervened in situ and transferred to Police stations at the disposal of the judicial and customs authorities, pending an expert report from an expert in anti-piracy to verify its value and authenticity.

In addition, the researchers made a detailed count of the different packages containing different fashion items and accessories, amounting to the total figure of 3,681 effects. On the other hand, once a detailed list was made by type of product, brand and model, the merchandise was analyzed by an expert assigned to the anti-piracy commission of the Ministry of Culture, who certified that they were counterfeit garments and quantified the total value of the merchandise at 1,905,919.38 euros.

For all these reasons, two people were arrested as alleged perpetrators of a crime against industrial property, leaving the effects intervened and the proceedings taken before the Court of Guard of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria.

Great News! I was in Cadiz recently and the amount of street sellers lining the narrow streets of the city selling counterfeit goods is bewildering. You literally have to step over them! I’m amazed there are so many idiots buying this crap and supporting this mafia controlled market. The local Police are turning a blind eye to it whilst legitimate tax paying businesses are struggling to survive and being screwed. Hopefully this is a sign that they’ll not let this type of illegal activity enter into the Canaries. That said, if people didn’t buy this fake crap then it wouldn’t exist anywhere.

Unfortunately people will buy these fakes, it a family are on holiday and they have say 3 kids who want a Real Madrid or a Barcelona jersey and they go to a market they can get 3 for less than the price of one genuine one in a shop. The younger kids don’t care all they want is a Football jersey of one of the big Spanish teams. Same goes for the like of Nike tee shirts
