The City Council of Pájara tries to rescue an injured donkey in Punta de Jandía.
The City Council of Pájara, through the Public Health Area, continues to work on the rescue of the damaged donkey located in Punta de Jandía.
The municipal veterinarian has moved on several occasions to the place with the aim of locating the affected animal and being able to assess the relevant actions. However, because the professionals have not managed to get close enough to treat the animal, the Consistory continues to monitor it to solve its situation.
The Councilor for Public Health Leticia Cabrera explains that they have been carrying out these tasks for several months, with the collaboration of the veterinary team of the Oasis Wild Life, who have repeatedly tried maneuvers to capture the animal, assess its condition and proceed to treat it.
"Because the donkey is quite elusive and starts the march when we try to approach, staying at a distance of about 50-60 meters, our actions have not borne fruit for now," says Cabrera.
"Although it can be seen that he has a damage to the right front leg that apparently seems to be consolidated, it does not prevent him from doing normal life, allowing him to move with enough skill through the orography of the place," says the councilor.
"In none of the visits made by the subscriber, the donkey has been seen in the vicinity of the urban center of Puertito, nor in the areas surrounding the road," warns the mayor, who also emphasizes that this issue is a priority and is a great concern, prioritizing animal welfare.
Even understanding that the competence in this matter is not municipal, time and energy have been spent trying to solve the problem. "We do not have facilities to house these animals, so we cannot remove it from the Jandía Natural Park, and we do not have human resources to capture and treat it, so we ask for the collaboration of the competent Public Administrations," says Cabrera.
"The problem with donkeys in our municipality has been dragging for years, without reaching an agreement on who has the powers in this matter," concluded the councilor.
"Our purpose is that there is conciliation between the competent institutions in the matter, making ourselves available to collaborate to the extent of our possibilities, in order to ensure the welfare and safety of the donkey and the population," says the mayor, Pedro Armas.
