The legendary blues man Greg Izor captivated the audience last night on the first day of the XII International Blues Festival in Corralejo, organised by the City Council of La Oliva, on an evening that also surprised Caterina Soul Blues Band (Italy - Gran Canaria) and that opened Rio Grande Blues (Tenerife).

From Austin (Texas) to Fuerteventura, Izor deployed the hurricane of its harmonics on the stage of Plaza Patricio Calero, an instrument that dominates with amazing mastery and that, drinking from the most classic blues, this blues man has raised to another level of modernity thanks to a very personal style, freely integrating the nuances of Louisiana blues, southern soul, swamp pop, classical jazz and R&B. With several albums under his belt, "Gregorio" gave himself totally in his performance, proving that he is not only a great performer and singer, but also a creator.

"It has been a lot of fun, I have felt the warmth of the public of Corralejo, and it is a pleasure to be here with this great band that accompanies me," said this natural artist from Connecticut, raised in Vermont, and currently one of the top representatives of the Texan, American and international blues.

Also surprised last night Caterina Soul Blues Band, a Gran Canarian quartet led by the Italian singer Caterina Di Placido with her reverberate and powerful voice, and developed an interesting repertoire heir to the best black music of the twentieth century, with themes of soul, blues and R&B. The evening opened the Rio Grande Blues from Tenerife, who showed on the stage the results of the record work he is preparing and will see the light at the end of the year, faithful to his 70s rock style with hard rock and blues rock dyes.

"It has been a luxury to be able to live this concert. We have in Fuerteventura great bands of the local, national and international blues that we can enjoy very closely, so we invite you all to enjoy the concerts also tonight, starting at 21 : 00 hours, "moved the Councillor for Culture of the City of La Oliva, Iballa Pérez, thanking the collaboration of the Cabildo de Fuerteventura to make this festival possible.

Saturday, October 26

The main course of this edition of the festival arrives tonight, starting at 9:00 p.m., with the four scheduled performances, by the Fuerteventura Big Band (Fuerteventura), Red Beard (Gran Canaria) ), Peaches Staten Band (Chicago, United States) and Jimmy Barnatan & The Cocooners (Madrid).

The evening will be closed by the legendary vocalist and diva of Chicago Peaches Staten and Jimmy Barnatan & The Cocooners, one of the best national representatives of blues, soul and rhythm and blues. It is also expected a lot of one of the most prominent Canarian bands, Red Beard and its authentic southern rock, in addition to the Fuerteventura Big Band, which has made a blues repertoire especially for this festival.

Program of the XII International Blues Festival of Corralejo

Friday October 25

Rio Grande Blues (Tenerife)
Caterina Soul Blues Band (Italy - Gran Canaria)
Greg Izor (Austin, Texas, Chicago, United States)

Saturday October 26

Fuerteventura Big Band (Fuerteventura)
Red Beard (Gran Canaria)
Peaches Staten Band (Chicago, United States)
Jimmy Barnatan & The Cocooners (Madrid)

Peaches Staten Band (Chicago, United States)

The blues diva Peaches Staten will be one of the great attractions of the festival, with its group Peaches Staten Band on the Corralejo stage, harmonising a style deeply rooted in the blues, with touches of funk and R&B. The singer is a member of the Chicago Blues Hall of Fame, and has trained musically in this city based on gospel, blues and soul, although she is a native of the Mississippi Delta (Doddsville).

Greg Izor (Austin, Texas, Chicago, United States)

The soloist of the harmonic and powerful singer Greg Izor will also be in Fuerteventura with the Greg Izor Band (Austin, Texas). Izor is from Vermont, but he grew up musically on the big blues stages of Louisiana, Chicago and Texas. His style is traditional roots, shaped by the influence of the masters of harmonica, Louisiana blues, southern soul, swamp pop, classical jazz and R&B, but also with the freshness of the emerging artist that he is.

Jimmy Barnatan & The Cocooners (Madrid)

The festival will also feature the show that ensures a reference band on the national scene, such as Jimmy Barnatán & The Cocooners (Madrid). This grouping of soul and rhythm and blues is led by the writer, actor and singer Jimmy Barnatán, and is characterised by its strong sound, with clear references to American-rooted music, as well as the unmistakable voice of Barnatán, attributes that have become one of the leading blues proposals in Spain.

Caterina Soul Blues Band (Italy - Gran Canaria)

Caterina Soul Blues Band is the quartet led by the Italian singer Caterina Di Placido, along with Reinaldo Rivero (guitar), Alberto Gulias (drums) and Marco Valero (bass). The band has been established in the Canarian panorama since 2012, and combines in its repertoire the best of black music of the twentieth century, with themes of soul, blues and R&B, in addition to spiritual songs that black slaves used to interpret in churches and plantations of the Southern US during the 18th and 19th centuries.

Fuerteventura Big Band (Fuerteventura)

Fuerteventura Big Band is a young musical project, which from 2017 until now has filled the hollow of jazz bands in the Majorero music scene. Fifteen musicians, mostly professionals, make up this band that is preparing a special blues show for this International Festival, a show that ensures the powerful and rich sound that came from their trumpets, trombones, saxos, flute, piano, guitar, bass and drums.

Red Beard (Gran Canaria)

Red Beard is a southern rock band born in 2014 from the union of several musicians from Gran Canaria. The group has an international tour, touring in the United States and Europe, and recording their latest album, Dakota, between two of the cradles of American music, Nashville and Texas.

Rio Grande Blues (Tenerife)

Río Grande Blues is a band originally from Tenerife, composed of former components of the legendary Conemrad, and incorporating a new vocalist from Lanzarote in its last stage. The conversion of that group has been directed towards a rock style of the 70's, with hard rock and blues rock dyes. After a trajectory of ten years, in recent times the band has made a leap forward, performing in festivals and halls of the Canary Islands and with the recording of their first record work, which will be presented at the end of the year.
