Radio Sintonia:
The lime kiln of El Charco converted into a museum.
In a statement issued by the City Council of Puerto del Rosario it is reported that this morning, the mayor of the municipality, Juan Jiménez, accompanied by the Councilor for Culture, Juan Manuel Verdugo, the Councilor for Historical Heritage, Eduardo Tarquis, and the Councilor for Works, Peña Armas, visited the works that are being undertaken in the Lime Kilns of El Charco, related to the musealization project contemplated in this infrastructure, and which will be destined to the dissemination of the historical heritage of Fuerteventura and Puerto del Rosario through an exhibition about the history of the lime industry.
El Charco Lime Oven opens its doors
In this way, the project, promoted by the Department of Culture directed by Juan Manuel Verdugo, recovers the historical heritage of Fuerteventura, remodeling this Lime Kiln to turn it into a museum center where to spread the history about the lime industry in Fuerteventura and the capital municipality.
In the Molina de La Charca, recently rehabilitated, the same musealization project that Gaia Consultores is undertaking in both spaces is also contemplated. In La Molina the history about Las Molinas of the island and its importance for the elaboration of artisanal gofio, the essential Canarian food par excellence, will be exposed.
In the words of the mayor of Puerto del Rosario, Juan Jiménez, "we have opted to recover some municipal historical spaces through the musealization of both the Molina de La Charca and the Interpretation Center the Lime Ovens of El Charco, so that citizens and tourists know more about the history of both lime and gofio in our islands. "
And adds the municipal president, "I think it is absolutely necessary to value all those elements that can be recovered and made known to know, with more certainty, where we come from and what are part of our signs of cultural identity."
Recover the historical heritage of Puerto del Rosario
The idea is, according to the Councilor for Culture, Juan Manuel Verdugo, "that the Lime Kilns of El Charco are a museum center, with which we recover the historical heritage of the municipality, and where to pay tribute to the old industry of Puerto Cabras: that of the manufacture of lime and gypsum in the old Puerto de la Cal, which has an undoubted historical and ethnographic value and whose economic activity obtained great relevance on our island in the late nineteenth century. In short, it is a clear commitment from the Department of Culture to preserve, in this way, part of the history of the capital of Majorera".
