Radio Sintonia:
Los Pozos Beach closed to bathing due to a possible spill.
The beaches of Los Molinos, Puerto Lajas, Playa Blanca and Las Caletillas did not register material damage after the passage of the DANA. However, Los Pozos Beach has been closed to bathing due to a possible spill that makes bathing not recommended. This has been communicated by the City Council of Puerto del Rosario in a statement. Public Health is carrying out analyses of the water to determine the nature and extent of these discharges, proceeding to reopen them once the cause of the discharge is solved.
The mayor of Puerto del Rosario, David de Vera, has expressed his concern since the alert was declared on the island. "Throughout the weekend we remained on alert and in contact with the emergency services to assess and act on the negative effects that the DANA could cause in different areas of the municipality, especially on the beaches."
For her part, the Councilor for Beaches, Toñi Fdez. Aragón added that "the best news is that there is no personal or material damage and that our beaches are in perfect condition so that bathers can enjoy them once the Weather situation finishes stabilizing".
In addition, the city council recalls that at the weekend, Los Pozos Beach had to be evacuated due to the massive influx of cruise passengers who wanted to take advantage of small moments of sun, however, the alert decreed by the Government of the Canary Islands did not allow it. This Monday, in collaboration with the Cabildo de Fuerteventura, the sand on the beach is being ploughed, in order to clean up the sand and prevent it from becoming caked after absorbing so many litres of rainwater.
From 00:00 hours on Monday, March 25, the General Directorate of Emergencies of the Government of the Canary Islands has declared the situation of pre-alert for rains in Fuerteventura due to the improvement of the Weather forecast of the State Meteorological Agency (AEMET), although the instability will continue for the next few days.
