Maxorata cheese, with Denomination of Origin, is the only product from the Canary Islands that has been recognized by the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food with the Food of Spain Award for the Best Spirit, the Best Cheeses and the Best Wines. The process to determine the winners of the Best Cheese Food of Spain Award was carried out at the Agrifood Arbitration Laboratory of Santander." These awards, whose resolution is published in the Official State Gazette, aim to promote and publicize native Spanish cheeses, organic cheeses and other types of cheeses that "have a high organoleptic quality, and stimulate producers to develop and market these products", according to the Magrama.
