This possibly relates to mainland Spain?

Noticias:

An Italian is infected with COVID, AIDS and Monkeypox at the same time on a trip to Spain.

After nine days on holiday in Spain, an Italian tourist was infected with COVID-19 and monkeypox. In addition to these diseases, he also tested positive for HIV. This is the first documented case of a confection of the three pathologies. Research published in the Journal of Infection has described the finding of experts from the University of Catania (Italy). The patient is a 36-year-old man who had visited Spain in June – from the 16th to the 20th – and, according to the affected person, had had unprotected sex with other men.

After being back in Italy for more than a week, the man reported symptoms related to the Coronavirus. After a test, despite being vaccinated with two doses, the last one was applied in December 2021, and having contracted COVID in January of this year, on July 2 the contagion was confirmed.

A few days later, the man went to the University Hospital of Catania, Italy, for the presence of skin lesions throughout the body. "On physical examination, it was found that he was dotted with small vesicles and reddened pustules," the article notes, so samples were taken and confirmed to also have monkeypox. The variant of the disease was that of West Africa, the one registered in Spain and other countries. Considering that the patient had stated that he had a risky sexual intercourse, and that the rashes were also in the area near the genitals, HIV analysis was performed. The results showed that he had a "recent" infection, the researchers say.

Case study

Although it is still unknown if the simultaneous presence of the three types of virus aggravates the patient's situation, as it is the only known case so far, specialists study the relationship of COVID and monkeypox by the mode of transfer: close contact. "The symptoms of the two diseases can overlap," they explain. So they recommend taking this into account when making assessments, more if the patient has recently traveled to countries that report an outbreak, as well as doing a complete screening for sexually transmitted infections (STIs).

In addition, the man, already discharged, continued to test positive for monkeypox 20 days after diagnosis. "This indicates that it could be contagious for several days," the researchers clarify.
