Mortgage payment - paying off our mortgage early
#1
Hi I’m looking for advice regarding paying off the balance of our mortgage. Although our apt is in Caleta the mortgage is with BS ( previously CAM) in Tenerife. Can we go to our local branch of Sabadell in Caleta to discuss this?  Would we require a solicitor? We live in Ireland and due to work commitments we will not be over until October so any advice would be much appreciated. TIA

We paid ours off a few years ago through our solicitor but it took forever to get our deeds back from Bankia. They came up with all kinds of reasons why they couldn’t supply them. Eventually I lost it and called into our solicitor who is Glax and co and instructed them to put bankia on 10 days notice or I was going to the regulator in Madrid. I’m not sure if it was coincidence or what but we had them the next week. We found glax and co quite good to deal with.

I hope you do not mind me asking , but did the bank have penalties for paying off early?

No we were on a variable rate as here penalties only apply to fixed rate. You will be charged a daily rate  ie if you normally pay your mortgage on the 1st of the month and your settling on the 20th you will be charged 20days interest. I’ll be over late September early October maybe we could have an auld chinwag 😁

Hi Joyw76. I can't add anything regarding the mortgage repayment, sorry, hope Rasputin and possibly others are able to answer your queries. I just wanted to say welcome to the forum and thanks for raising some interesting questions. Hope it all works out for you - please update the thread with anything useful you find out elsewhere, and the eventual outcome. Goodluck! Enjoy the feeling when you pay off the mortgage  Thumbs Up

Hi Joy,

As Tamara says welcome to the forum. Sorry I can’t add anything to your question either as I never mortgaged in Fuerteventura.
Interestingly I’m from Ireland and will be over in October and if it’s the same time would love to meet up and say hello. We are over from the 10th to the 19th. Our place is in Caleta.

That’s a shame Rasputin, do you go out at Christmas?
We generally go out either just before or just after and come back around the 3rd or 5th
January, maybe we could meet up then.
