Recovered the Natural Fountain of the Atalayita and its Gambuesa.
This Wednesday, May 24 at noon, the mayor of Antigua, Matías Peña García and the Councilor for Livestock, Fernando Estupiñán, picked up at his home the Commissioner of the Common, Pedro Moseguez, to take him to the Watchtower of Pozo Negro and give him the surprise of witnessing the signing of reception of the Natural Fountain and the gambuesa of the Atalayita, recovered and finished, as they always wanted and did not get to see, their commissioned successors, Nicolás Herrera Cabrera and Francisco Hernández Robayna, among others.
A place that comes back to life
In a spectacular landscape from where you can see the Atalayita, the aboriginal village and the Malpaís language in all its extension to the beach of Pozo Negro, the recovered natural spring supplies water to coastal goats, birds and wildlife in the area.
The City Council of Antigua, from the Department of the primary sector, executes this action, after managing to unlock the necessary environmental permits, awarding to a quarry company the works of drainage, cleaning, stone construction of a retaining wall that facilitates the exit of water from the natural well and its continuous oxygenation, in addition to reconstructing a gambuesa of 160 square meters profiled in masonry that allows the farmers of the common to collect and Control coastal cattle.
Actions underway for the recovery of another centennial source
"All the actions related to the recovery of traditional structures of the Mancomún," explains Mayor Matías Peña, "are done in coordination and at the proposal of the Costa cattle commissioners, in this case, by the hand of Pedro Moseguez, as well as Tomás Acosta in the northern area where the recovery of another centennial source for farmers such as the natural source of the Barranco de La Torre will soon be put out to tender. "
"The action in La Atalayita recovers a traditional area of the common," says Councilman Estupiñán, "providing health to the fresh water that emanates continuously in this natural spring, allowing the conservation and maintenance of coastal livestock, as well as the varied wildlife in this habitat, and concludes the councilor, the recovery of traditional structures as natural sources, gambuesas or adaptation of stone walls allows and promotes the conservation of the natural space".
