More than a thousand containers spread throughout the island will optimize waste treatment.
In a statement issued from the Cabildo de Fuerteventura it is reported that more than a thousand side-loading containers will be incorporated in the coming weeks to the different municipalities of the Island, as highlighted today, Wednesday, March 15, during his visit to the Zurita Environmental Complex, the president of the Cabildo, Sergio Lloret, "with the aim of expanding and renewing the units, optimizing waste treatment through a more efficient system".

"For the sustainability of the island of Fuerteventura, proper waste management is very important, as well as continuing to advance in raising awareness and promoting the recycling of urban waste," said Sergio Lloret. "It is essential that from the administrations we set an example and make available to citizens all the facilities to promote recycling and thus contribute to the sustainability of our Island," highlights the island councilor.
The president of the Institution has also reported that the tender for the new contract for the management of the collection and transport of all the material to be recycled in the six municipalities of the Island is already in the final stretch for its commissioning.
"There were many complaints we had from the town halls and neighbors about the deficient system in terms of frequency and number of collection points. That is why it has been one of the priority commitments we have assumed in this legislature", said Sergio Lloret.
A €3 million contract to manage and transfer waste
The contract, budgeted at about three million euros, will last four years, during which the winning company will assume responsibility for the management and transfer of waste from three transfer plants and four clean points on the island.
"The commissioning of the new contract will be a giant step not only for the environmental sustainability of Fuerteventura, but to meet the demands of citizens," said the vice president of the Cabildo, Juan Nicolás Cabrera.
