Does anyone know when is the new IKEA in industrial zone of El Matorral being open? There were some major works being done over the summer, not sure how they are progressing. We have used the current small IKEA for many things but the waiting/delivery time for the bigger stuff is just too long.
Where do you normally buy your furniture etc.. in Fuerte?

I imagine it will be middle of next year, at least ! I haven’t ordered anything for a while now but generally it was only a one week(ish) delivery time. If we need anything it’s generally Edem, IKEA or one of the furniture shops near Ideal.
The big difference with a proper store, rather than just a collection point, is that you can actually touch and feel the stuff before buying. I think that's quite important with IKEA stuff.
I did hear or read somewhere that it is only going to be a bigger collection point store which would be a shame. However, the current system works quite well, we usually shop in the Edinburgh store, take note of the name(code numbers are different for some reason) and then order online on the Canaries site.
Edem has now close unfortunately.
For those that have travel discount it's worth a flight over to gran Canaria to visit El Corte Inglese. 2 huge John Lewis type shops opposite each other in Las Palmas and certainly best selection of terrace furniture I've seen. You can also order online.

I remember reading sometimes last year about IKEA opening new bigger store in one of the free magazines. It said opening in summer 2018. That's not going to happen and I guess they meant 2019, not 2020.
I'm still glad to have IKEA on the island, no matter if you have to wait a few days to get things delivered. The only issue is once things go wrong. You simply have to wait again until they sort it out. ...or fix it yourself.
I remember when we bought the whole (quite small) kitchen and one of the drawers had wider front. I mean much wider - 600mm instead of 400mm. I just grabbed the hacksaw and made it fit instead of going back and waiting for the right one to be delivered. The drawer is hidden behind the cabinet door anyway and we had a few extra hours on the beach instead of spending the time in IKEA trying to get the right size drawer front.
