The well-known natural pool of Puerto del Rosario, located in the neighbourhood of El Charco, approximately in the back of the military residence, could recover its former glory within a few months, perhaps for the summer. The Department of Works, Parks, Green Areas and Education of the City of Puerto del Rosario, directed by Carlos Rodríguez, will rehabilitate this leisure space within the framework of a broader project. "The objective is to rehabilitate the pool and make it useful for bathing, minimizing the risks of possible accidents before the rise and fall of tide in an area that is also very slippery," explains the councillor of the area.
The natural pool, which in times past was a meeting point for the residents of the capital, has been practically in ruins for several decades. «Right now it is very deteriorated: there are stones in the bottom, sometimes water comes in and sometimes not, it does not have any protection and parts of the walls are fallen. You also have to round the edges of the walls to prevent users from hurting themselves, "says Rodríguez.
The rehabilitation and putting into use of the pool is part of the development of a more ambitious project, which, in this case without laying a block, will consist of extending the seafront. Currently there is a small stretch of urbanized walk from the vicinity of the commercial dock to the natural pool, but the same, just a few meters wide, has not been able to move further north due to the existence of properties on areas of servitude or directly on maritime-terrestrial public domain.
From the pool in a northerly direction towards the Herbania or vice versa, although you can walk on foot, you have to do it on undeveloped land. Now, the aforementioned project includes a seafront promenade built without cement: wooden platforms will be installed from the pool until the corner of the Herbania, although they will not reach the lime kilns zone currently immersed in another rehabilitation project- due to the existence of a property near the sea that prevents the advance of the walk.
The maritime avenue of wooden platforms will have a length of approximately 320 meters and a width of four meters. The project has been awarded to the company Obras Públicas Canarias for about 237,000 euros. The installation of the platforms has an administrative authorization of Costas for one year, although the plenary session of the City Council of Puerto del Rosario has already requested that it be extended to 50 years.
The works, both of the swimming pool and the promenade of platforms, have a deadline of just one and a half months from the beginning of the same. The affected section will be further embellished with landscaped areas, benches to sit and pergolas for the hot days.
