The City Council of La Oliva has removed 12 tons of waste from the Barranca de Cañada de Melián, in Lajares, "an area that has been rehabilitated and closed because it has been subject to indiscriminate dumping of garbage. The entrance has been closed and has been expanded the disruption of the perimeter to prevent this situation from repeating itself, "said Councilor for the Environment, David Fajardo.
The waste removed has been transferred to the Zurita Environmental Complex, including 400 kilos of tires and 2,400 of household appliances and electrical appliances that have been deposited separately for treatment and recycling.
The closure of this old dump has been carried out through the specialized company Martínez Cano, which during the last week has been working with the necessary machinery and personnel to reduce the impacts and rehabilitate the ravine, and in coordination with the Agency of Protection of the Urban and Natural Environment. The City Council of La Oliva will continue to collaborate with this entity, from the Department of Environment and also Works and Services, directed by Oliver Gonzalez, to rehabilitate similar areas of discharge in other parts of the municipality.
The Councilor for the Environment moved that from the City Council "we are very concerned about a situation that is repeated too often," and announced that "from the government group we will intensify surveillance and apply the corresponding sanctions to the unscrupulous people who are dedicated to litter anywhere, "said David Fajardo.
"We cannot allow the territory to be damaged in this way, having a Clean Point in Lajares that collects free waste from the neighbors a few meters from this ravine," added Oliver Gonzalez, who also announced the collaboration between both councils to Continue rehabilitating areas of irregular discharge.
Once the waste of the Barranca de Cañada de Melián has been removed and its access closed, this action will be completed with the signaling facility, detailing in this and other points the prohibition of littering and informing about the location and schedules of the Clean Point.
