Radio Sintonia:
La Oliva will start the launch of a museum on fishing history in Corralejo.
The group En Marcha has proposed this Thursday to the plenary session of the City Council of La Oliva the creation of a house museum in Corralejo that allows to value the history and cultural heritage of the municipality linked to the art of fishing, specifically of the towns of Corralejo and El Cotillo.
In the motion of the group led by Pedro Amador, the history of Corralejo as a fishing village has been remembered. Until the arrival of tourism in the 70s, the main economic engine of Corralejo was fishing with a good part of the families dedicated to this art that left many neighbors at sea, as a result of which there was a significant number of young widows, explains the political group.
An art that became the livelihood of many families in the municipality and that allowed the youngest to leave the island to pursue university studies. All of which amply justifies, for En Marcha, the recognition that must be made to sea professionals and as a reminder of the new generations of the effort of their ancestors.
En Marcha proposes a house museum that houses a permanent exhibition on fishing, everything related to navigation, the sea and all its wealth, and that makes a journey from the first stories that are documented to the present to show the historical evolution.
"Remembering our history and valuing it is a commitment that we must have as a people and that serves so that future generations know the history of the town in which they live, a history that has little to do with the present," says Pedro Amador.
The proposal was approved with the votes of the groups of En Marcha and Coalición Canaria, in addition to the councilor of Nueva Canarias and the mixed group. For their part, the groups Gana Fuerteventura and PSOE and the councilors of PP and Podemos, abstained.
The proposal proposes to start the works to launch this house museum. "We have proposed the search for an installation where to locate this museum center, as well as financing not only with the municipality's own funds, but through the collaboration of other public administrations," adds the spokeswoman for En Marcha, Fiamma Guerra.
