Puerto del Rosario revalidates the blue flag in Playa Blanca, Los Pozos and Puerto Lajas
Of the 11 award-winning beaches on the island, three of them are in the capital municipality
The City Council of Puerto del Rosario, through the Department of Beaches and Coasts, has revalidated this 2024 the European Blue Flag quality distinction for three of its beaches: Playa Blanca, Los Pozos and Puerto Lajas.
The Ministry of Health announced this Tuesday, May 7, that the island of Fuerteventura has been awarded 11 blue flags for its beaches, three of these distinctions for the coasts of Puerto del Rosario.
Playa de Los Pozos obtains this recognition for the tenth consecutive time, while Playa Blanca does so for the sixteenth time and Puerto Lajas, for the twelfth time.
The mayor of Puerto del Rosario, David de Vera, recalled that "the Blue Flag is an internationally recognized symbol that evidences our efforts in the conservation of our environment and the promotion of sustainable tourism."
Toñi Fdez. Aragón, Councillor for Beaches and Coastlines, added that "our urban beaches are once again awarded the Blue Flag, a good example of the quality of our waters. This is corroborated and transmitted to us by our thousands of visitors, mostly cruise passengers, who enjoy our coasts every season."
The three beaches receive the European quality label for another consecutive year after meeting a series of criteria of excellence in terms of the quality of the water and the bathing area, in addition to having the corresponding safety services, improvements in accessibility, current environmental regulations and adequate health infrastructures to guarantee the health and safety of the people who use them.
The Blue Flag is an annual award and a European environmental quality certification system developed by the FEE (Environmental Education Foundation), while in Spain this initiative is coordinated by the Association of Environmental and Consumer Education (ADEAC) and, in the Canary Islands, it is the Ministry of Health of the Government of the Canary Islands, through the General Directorate of Public Health of the Canary Islands Health Service. who collaborates with the requesting municipalities, as is the case of the city council.
