FV landscape created by farmers
#1
from Radio Sintonia:

The landscape of Fuerteventura, created by the farmer.

La Rosa de Fuerteventura moves to the "La Cilla" Grain Museum, in La Oliva, to learn about the project to recover traditional barley in Fuerteventura. We are joined by Concha Fleitas, president of the People's Root Association; David de Vera, counselor of the Primary Sector and Jorge, a farmer on timeshare with his father, as a way to maintain the tradition and not miss the majorera seed.
"La Cilla", as Concha Fleitas tells us, is the building where tithing was formerly charged and which has been restored to house the Grain Museum. In addition, it makes a special mention to Nacho Hernández and Rosario Sardeña, great promoters of the fact that the Grain Museum was mounted in this place.

When we enter, we are transported to other times through the utensils and images that lead us, too, to that sacrifice of the farmers of the time. Most of the landscapes in the museum, recognizable to Jorge, are from the La Oliva area. "The farmer apart from the fact that it was a very hard profession, created landscape" with the construction of the gavias or the conditioning of the pipes, says Jorge. "If we analyze it from traditional agriculture, the landscape of Fuerteventura is created by the farmer", highlights "the walls to almost the edge of the mountain, the nateros, those first waters they brought, that grit that kept moisture very well".

We spoke with Concha Fleitas about the first ideas to give a function to the house of "La Cilla" and that is that the Grain Museum was a unique proposal, although on one occasion, after the restoration, they offered to install a doll museum, something that surprised him a lot. He also explains the project of recovery of the pajeros and the elaboration of the documentary with the process.

According to the counselor David de Vera, the Grain Museum was born mainly by the insistence of Concha and, as a result of this initiative, the Experimental Farm of Pozo Negro is also promoted. "We are the only island in the Canary Islands that does not have a conservation of these traditional seeds in a genebank," he says.

Jorge's family has preserved the seed "always trying to keep it in good condition", free of moisture and planting small areas to save seed. He also explains how it is sown in his rose, the person in charge of the preparation is his father, who this year decided not to plant because he predicted that the year was going to be complicated in terms of rain and he was not wrong.

For her part, Concha Fleitas defends that this Grain Museum should be a point of information or advice for all those people who have an initiative or need to solve doubts.
Jorge Fleitas has provided the grain for this museum, along with Gerónimo Soto who has contributed a part. We end the program with the desire that it rains a little more so that the grain germinates and the pajeros can be made, but we do not leave without the invitation to the pionada to start the barley by hand.
