Spirulina grown in Agua de Bueyes
The mayor of Antigua, Matías Peña and the Councilor for Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries, Fernando Estupiñán, have visited the Maxofarm company, a pioneer in the Canary Islands, dedicated to the cultivation of spirulina, a kind of algae that has become a seaweed of the most appreciated in the world of nutrition, as a super food for its important properties, providing 65% protein, 100% digestible because it lacks cellulose and contains a high amount of vitamins.

Only its natural existence is known in Latin American and African countries, as well as in specific locations in Fuerteventura, such as wetlands and dams, where birds have transported the essence of this algae in their legs and beaks. The conditions of Fuerteventura are perfect for its cultivation, explains the mayor, Peter Schilling, an expert in the cultivation of Spirulina and that he found in Daniel Acosta, the ideal partner to invest in the required facilities and needs, creating the aquaculture company, Maxofarm in a magnificent natural enclave like Agua de Bueyes.

Daniel Acosta, combines this innovative project with the natural products company of aloe vera, Vidaloe, with a plantation of 10,000 aloe plants that combines spices, mealybugs and elements of the island to obtain high quality creams or soaps.

Both companies are magnificent examples of the committed, tenacious and continuous work of a workforce of 10 people who contribute professionalism and affection in each step of the different processes of cultivation, manufacturing, or presentation and information to the public of the process and final result, explains the councillor , Fernando Estupiñán.

In Agua de Bueyes we have two companies that, being small, combine two high-quality products, referents in the Canary Islands and in the world, affirms Mayor Matías Peña, the well-known Vidaloe and the innovator and shortly, international reference, Maxofarm, in a careful facility that combine the most innovative technology with the tradition of stone, wood, majorero patio, the cultivation of aloe vera, the natural dye of cochineal and now the cultivation of one of the most appreciated foods in the world such as Spirulina . Knowing first hand, family businesses that are installed in our municipality, this time, in Agua de Bueyes, of the highest quality and ambitious sights in the regional, national and international landscape, is a pride that we will lend from the City of Antigua All our support in promotion and help that we need and can carry out, concludes Matías Peña.

Called in today, lots of aloe products, somehow cheaper than Verde Aurora farm and already selling aforementioned spirulina. Apparently the only farm producing spirulina in the whole Canary Archipelago.
