#1
Radio Sintonia:

The Optimist Canary Islands Cup will be held for the first time in the waters of Fuerteventura.

The Nautical Club of Fuerteventura organizes the 'XI Canary Islands Cup of the Canarian Association of Nautical Clubs – International Optimist Class', which will be held for the first time on the island of Fuerteventura. The competition will take place on Saturday, July 1 and Sunday, day 2, in the Bay of Puerto del Rosario, with training and registration from the previous day, on Friday, June 30.

The event hopes to bring together the greatest talents of Canarian sailing in the category of training par excellence, the optimist, offering the opportunity to compete, coexist, and improve the young sailors of Fuerteventura and the Canary Islands, aged between 8 and 15 years.

Also, according to the Fuerteventura Yacht Club, the event wants to take advantage of and value the magnificent conditions offered by the Puerto del Rosario regatta course, at the foot of the largest ramp of the islands, with 45 meters wide, and next to the facilities of the Nautical School, venue of the event.

The test foresees the participation of approximately 80 boats of the International Optimist Class, representing all the nautical clubs of the Canary Islands. The Fuerteventura Yacht Club recalls that registrations are still open until Friday, June 30, on the regatta website of the Canarian Sailing Federation, https://www.rfcvela.com/ regattas, or in person with the teams displaced to the island of Fuerteventura.

The Canary Islands Cup is a test organized on a rotating basis between the different islands by the Canarian Association of Nautical Clubs, under the official regulations of the Royal Spanish Sailing Federation of the international optimist class.

The test in Fuerteventura will take place in the regatta course of the Bay of Puerto del Rosario, based in the premises of the Nautical School of Fuerteventura, next to the Cruise Pier.

6 tests are scheduled, half on Saturday and half on Sunday. At least one will have to be completed, for the Canary Islands Cup of the Canarian Association of Nautical Clubs to be valid. With up to 4 tests performed, the score will be the sum of the four, and with more than 4 performed, the test with the worst score can be discarded. The route to be navigated will be an exterior trapeze with the arrival at the end of the second stretch of tightness. The competition will be resolved with three podiums in male and female categories of Optimist under-11, under-13 and under-16.

I had a lovely couple of hours down at Puerto (walkway between Puerto and Playa Blanca) today watching the dinghy racing. There was certainly a good breeze for them to use!

Thanks for that Tamara. We have often seen dinghies sailing in that area, on our way to the airport.
We have a friend coming to visit who is a very keen sailor, I was wondering if there was anywhere on the island who rented out dinghies? Thanks/
