The ban on limpets and burgados begins in the Canary Islands.
From today until April 30 there is a ban on these molluscs throughout the Canary Islands, in Fuerteventura from July to September 30
The Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock, Fisheries and Food of the Autonomous Government has announced that between December 1 and April 30, both inclusive, it is not allowed to capture limpets or burgados on any island.
This ban also extends to Fuerteventura between 1 July and 30 September. The aim is the sustainability of the species, thus ensuring their survival. For this reason, every year since 2011, temporary closures have been established for limpets, burgados and some species of crabs, including those used for bait.
Between December 1 and March 31, both inclusive, it is not allowed to catch black or black crab and white crab, as well as crabs that are used for bait, flat spider, bait or juyón.
This closed period does not apply to crabs used for bait in professional fishing or for recreational shellfishing on the island of El Hierro (flat spider and juyón, for bait use only), where, during this period, only up to 50 per cent of the amount established in the non-closed period may be caught.
