In the first 9 months of year 24 it rises by 8.95% in relation to the same period of the previous year
The movement of goods continues to grow in its traffic by sea in the archipelago and in this sense the Port Authority of Las Palmas explains in a press release the significant increases in the three ports of the eastern province.
The agency states that the three ports increased their total traffic to reach 23,555,719 tonnes in the first nine months of 2024, which represents an increase of +11.75% compared to the same period last year, i.e. 2,477,074 tonnes more than in September 2024.
The highest growth recorded is for the Port of Las Palmas is +12.93%, with 20,450,001 tonnes from January to September; the Port of Arrecife increased its total traffic by +3.60%, with 1,363,150 tonnes; the Port of Puerto del Rosario also shows positive figures, with an increase of +8.78% and 1,060,690 tons; the Port of Arinaga increases by +3.54%, with 177,326 tonnes; while the Port of Salinetas is the only one that decreases its total traffic by -0.79% with 504,552 tonnes.
The year-on-year variation from January to September 2024 with respect to 2023 for the five ports of the Port Authority presents the following data in the main indicators:
Passenger traffic: +4.99% (-1.56% on the regular line and +14.38% on the cruise line), with a total of 2,329,000 passengers, compared to 2,218,209 passengers in the same period of 2023; tonnes of goods: +10.47% to 21,391,682 tonnes, compared to 19,363,970 tonnes in the first nine months of 2023; tonnes of frozen fish: +9.12%, with 215,191 tonnes, compared to 197,206 tonnes from January to September of the previous year; tonnes of fresh fish: +18.46% with 738 tonnes, compared to 623 in the same period of the previous year; tonnes of fuel: +29.63% to 1,972,937 tonnes, compared to 1,521,934 tonnes in the first nine months of 2023; TEU units: +10.37% to 994,547 units, compared to 901,070 in January-September 2023; tonnes of containerised general cargo: +7.59% to 11,055,724 tonnes, compared to 10,276,061 tonnes in the first nine months of 2023; Ro-Ro traffic units: -0.70% with 271,767 units, compared to 273,685 in the same period of the previous year; and tonnes of Ro-Ro traffic: +5.61% with 3,767,272 tonnes, compared to 3,567,260 tonnes in January-September 2023.
For the Port of Las Palmas, the year-on-year variation of the accumulated January-September 2024-2023 reflects the following data in the main indicators:
Passenger traffic: +1.38% (-2.66% on regular lines and +12.42% on cruise ships), with 1,663,951 passengers; tonnes of goods: +11.49% with 18,314,065 tonnes; tonnes of frozen fish: +10.72% with 207,967 tonnes; tonnes of fresh fish: -76.25% with 19 tonnes; tonnes of fuel: +29.73% to 1,965,607 tonnes; TEU units: +10.87% to 913,368 TEUs; tonnes of containerised general cargo: +7.73% with 10,411,464 tonnes, Ro-Ro traffic units: -2.70% with 183,011 units; and tons of Ro-Ro traffic: +3.37% with 2,609,910 tons.
