The installation of 32.8 new megawatts in Fuerteventura is approved
The fuel oil-powered modules will be installed in La Hondura and/or in the La Herradura Industrial Estate, according to Minister Zapata
Fuerteventura will see in a short space of time installed the 32.8 MW electricity generation modules that everything seems to indicate will not go in the current El Charco power plant, in statements by Minister Zapata.
Zapata announced that Miteco will assume the costs for the installation of 50.8 MW of additional manageable power in Gran Canaria, another 71.6 MW in Tenerife and 32.8 MW in Fuerteventura. This coverage may be extended in the event that the Canary Islands Government decides to adopt new extraordinary measures, on which work continues.
The Minister described this fact as "historic and unprecedented", since "it is a coordinated work between administrations and in the face of the initiative of this Ministry and the Government to provide a solution to a serious problem in the Canary Islands, after the realization of an open and transparent procedure that had not been addressed to date, such as the energy deficit."
Zapata recalled that this additional power is required on three islands since "they are the ones where the system operator (Red Eléctrica de España) has expressed a deficit in coverage for the guarantee of supply".
According to the minister, the modules will be installed in the area of La Hondura, north of Puerto del Rosario and/or in the Industrial Estate of La Herradura.
The order published today "recognises the costs over a period of three years", noting that "these are emergency measures, of an extraordinary and temporary nature". And that these will be maintained "as long as these risk situations persist and until the competitive competition is effective." The exceptional nature of these measures means that they cannot be structural and hence it has been necessary to work on proposals with very specific characteristics, such as the fact that they are not fixed or take into account the volume of the equipment".
