canaria gran madness

The madness that is Gran Canaria
#1
Not sure if this is allowed but here goes.
We have just spent five nights on Gran Canaria and I have to say, I'm glad I live on Fuerte.
You either have tortuous driving in the mountains, which I don't really mind, or the madness of the motorways, which are as bad as the UK (if not worse).
I don't know if the crossings on the ferry are ever smooth but we encountered rough journeys in both directions. There were a lot of sick passengers on the way back. Fortunately Jill and I were OK (surprisingly).
Not a journey I would want to repeat too many times, but we would like to return to see the west of the island.

Went there once in around 2001/2002, it gave me the impression of being the transgender capital of The World, never tempted to return.

I was there not that long ago to buy a car. Would recommend the Seat place. Best selection in the Canaries and very professional staff. Vegueta Old town is worth a visit, lovely architecture, and there are a few very good restaurants. The journey back on the Ferry was also rough and loads of people were throwing up all over the place. I felt sorry for the ferry staff who were clearing up bucket loads of vomit.

We just had a week there,I could not believe that GC 1.
There are actually sections where you join and leave from the same slip road. Not the same as the parallel ones with the double thickness white lines where they overtake quite happily on the inside.
But in all fairness all drivers seemed to be in good humour and seemed to give us a lot of space.(Possibly the big "el Cotillo" on the rear door)
Any one looking for a quiet break on GC in a Spanish area check out ARINAGA. Its lovely.
