This will allow for greater availability and capacity of the berthing line in the container and goods area
The Council of Ministers, at its meeting today and at the proposal of the Ministry of Transport and Sustainable Mobility, has authorised a tender for 44 million euros (VAT not included) for the construction of a commercial dock-dock in the port of Puerto del Rosario, on the island of Fuerteventura (Canary Islands).
The works include the execution of a new exterior structure that will give continuity to the commercial dock, through two aligned formations (see image of the area of action): the first of them has a slope section and its main objective is to connect the current facilities with the second formation of the work, 375 meters long and vertical section. technical solution that will allow ships to dock on their inner face.
This improves the shelter conditions in the southern part of the port and generates a new berthing line, which will be used in the first place for the unloading of fuel. In this way, this type of unloading, which needs greater security, is made independent of an area further away from the rest of the activities carried out in the port, also opening the possibility of being used by other types of traffic operating in the facility, consequently expanding its overall capacity.
Thus, at the northern end of this second alignment there is a heel to be used in ro-ro operations (ships that transport ro-ro cargo such as cars, trucks, etc.).
The construction of the new dock-dock will allow for greater availability and capacity of the berthing line in the container area, since the berthing currently occupied by fuel will be freed up, to be used exclusively for containers and goods in general.
This port facility, managed by the Port Authority of Las Palmas, plays an essential role in supplying the island of Fuerteventura, being the entry point for both goods and passengers. The work that is authorized today fulfills a historical claim of the island, since it will improve the operation of the port and increase its capacity, and shows the commitment of the Government of Spain to port development in the Canary Islands.
The investment in the project is foreseen in the 2024-2028 investment plan of the Port Authority of Las Palmas, within the Business Plan for the 2025 financial year, agreed with Puertos del Estado.
