Radio Sintonia:
Fuerteventura reinforces its intercity transport service.
The interurban transport service of Fuerteventura continues to be reinforced with new buses, thanks, they point out from Coalición Canaria in a statement, to the work managed by the counselor of Coalición Canaria in the Cabildo de Fuerteventura, Carmen Alonso. In November, two new vehicles were incorporated and the agreement has been signed to bring another four buses in the coming weeks, in order to respond to the saturation of certain frequencies of some of the lines that have the greatest influx of passengers. In addition, the fleet will continue to increase with the incorporation of around fifteen other buses, scheduled for the first months of 2023.
One of the main problems of the island
According to the nationalist spokesperson in the Cabildo, Lola García, "the transport of passengers by bus in Fuerteventura has been dragging a serious situation for a long time. Therefore, it is important all the work that has been done from the Ministry of Transport to incorporate new vehicles, which will add new services and modify existing ones. "
The objective is to respond to the different needs demanded by citizens, reinforcing the lines with the highest number of passengers, services at the airport, as well as those most demanded by neighborhood groups and workers.
The island councilor, Carmen Alonso, explains that "the economic crisis derived from the increase in fuel and energy costs has caused, as is logical, a greater influx of travelers using public transport. For all this situation, alternatives have been sought with the incorporation of the new buses. "
The incorporation of the new buses will also allow to respond to the increase in users of interurban transport that will mean free of charge from January 1.
Advantages for Canarian residents
In reference to this last aspect, Carmen Alonso recalls that Canarian residents will be able to use the buses for free in Fuerteventura, thanks to the work of the two CC deputies in Congress and who managed to include it in the budget law. It also becomes a reality thanks to the work that has been managed on the island from the Ministry of Transport with meetings held by Alonso.
From January 1, 2023, these people will be able to benefit from the discount of 100% of the ticket price. A measure that "contributes to promoting the use of a more economical and sustainable means of transport, especially in a situation such as the current one in which we live an increase in fuel costs. Costs that end up being unaffordable by citizens".
Carmen Alonso, adds that "for its application, a long work of coordination has been carried out with the rest of the island councils and the competent heads of the Government of the Canary Islands. This work has allowed us to optimally implement the free policy so necessary to promote mobility in public transport".
The 100% discount will be applied to those users who prove to make more than 15 trips per month. In addition, people who were already receiving a 50% bonus for being users of the retiree, student bonus, the bonus aimed at people with disabilities and their companions, have a period of two months (From January 1 to February 28) in which they will receive the 100% discount to be able to switch to the Canarian resident bonus that receives greater benefits and will continue to be free from March 1.
"It should be noted that the users of the student voucher have already been able to benefit this year from its gratuity, financed 100% with the Cabildo's own funds," adds Alonso.
