Intervened 104 kilos of fish to three sport fishermen in Corralejo.
The Civil Guard has knowledge of the facts fruit of citizen collaboration, more specifically a complaint from fishermen in the area.
The Civil Guard of the Maritime Detachment of Fuerteventura, intervened on March 09 to three people between 50 and 70 years old without a record for similar Events, for catching 104 kilograms of fish in a sports boat, since they could only catch 5 kilograms of fish per person, in Corralejo.
Knowledge of the facts
The Civil Guard has knowledge of the facts as a result of citizen collaboration, since fishermen in the area had been warning that the aforementioned boat had been fishing for several days and was likely to present an excess of catches.
Therefore, a tracking device was established that allowed to verify how this group formed by three people, exercised an illegal fishing activity exceeding the amount caught, of which one did not have a valid Fishing License. The Civil Guards inspected the boat in collaboration with Fisheries Inspectors of the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food upon arrival at the Port, where it was found that they carried a large excess of catches, being established 5 kilograms per person.
It should be noted that the weighing was carried out in the fishermen's guild at the dock of Corralejo, adding the totality of the fishing 104 kilograms, fulfilling all the fish caught with the minimum regulatory size and having a great variety of species such as samas, samas roqueras, bocinegros, bicudas, conger eels, moray eels, breams, donkeys and a grouper.
Legislation
Seized 104 kilos of fish to three sport fishermen in Corralejo. Currently, recreational fishing in inland waters of the Canary Islands is regulated by Law 17/2003, of April 10, on Fishing in the Canary Islands. Depending on the excess in catches, the violation can be considered minor (if twice the allowed amount is not exceeded) or serious (if twice the allowed amount is exceeded). Article 70. 4. e of the Fisheries Law of the Canary Islands cites as a serious offense "The capture of an amount of fishing per person, in the modality of recreational fishing, greater than twice the maximum daily limit".
Possible sanctions
Serious infringements may be sanctioned with a fine of 301 to 60,000 euros, under Chapter IV, article 76 of Law 17/2003, of April 10, on Fishing of the Canary Islands.
This infringement also entails, as an accessory penalty, the confiscation of the products.
