Recognition to Laura Afonso, a student 10.

The IES Puerto del Rosario held this Friday, July 8, an act of recognition to its Laura Afonso student who, last June, managed to obtain the best grade of the EBAU of all the Canary Islands in the tests held at the ULPGC.

 

In the act, in addition to the teachers and relatives of the student of the IES Puerto del Rosario, was present the mayor of the City of Puerto del Rosario, Juan Jiménez, and the Councilor for Education, Eduardo Tarquis, along with the director of the center, Mari Carmen Montelongo, the vice rector of students, and employability of the ULPGC, David Sánchez, the Deputy Minister of Education, Universities and Sports of the Government of the Canary Islands, María Dolores Rodríguez, the insular director of Education, Cristina Alfonso, as well as Mari Carmen Martín, the director of the CEIP Pablo Neruda who served as a reference in the excellent training of Laura Afonso.

Both the first municipal president and the Councilor for Education congratulated the young woman for her magnificent results obtained, the result of her work throughout her educational career"that has led her to get the best access to the University in the Canary Islands. Today, the municipality and the City Council of Puerto del Rosario is proud to be able to count on the best student in the Canary Islands, an example and a benchmark of education in our municipality and, therefore, we congratulate her and encourage her to continue in the same line, as well as we congratulate the IES Puerto del Rosario for the important training work that all teachers develop with their students.

The municipal councilor, likewise, congratulated the parents of the student, "who should be proud of their daughter, a student who has achieved the best grade of the EBAU of the Canary Islands, fruit of the public educational system of the Canary Islands, so from here we congratulate both the educational center of the IES Puerto del Rosario and the Ministry of Education of the Government of the Canary Islands. Laura Afonso endorses the image of the academic performance of the municipality. Congratulations and to continue on the same path, "the mayor told the young student.

For her part, during the act of recognition, the Deputy Minister María Dolores Rodríguez also conveyed a few words of congratulations to the student, as well as to the family and the director of the CEIP Pablo Neruda, Mari Carmen Martín, "who represents the basis of Laura Afonso's education since primary school".

The representative of the regional Executive thanked the "necessary support" that the educational centers of the municipality receive from the City Council of Puerto del Rosario, and recognized the effort of the student to achieve this achievement, while highlighting the role of the teaching teams, families and, in general, the entire educational community in the development of the skills and competencies of the students " . He also encouraged the young woman to continue preparing and training throughout life.

 
Next September, the student Laura Afonso will begin her studies in Medicine at the University of Salamanca.

You have to congratulate the young woman on her current and hopefully future achievements, but I could not help thinking while reading the article, this is more about politicians patting themselves on the back for what ever little past they actually played,in the young ladies achievements, and virtually nothing about the person herself, now that might be the way she wanted it, but I still feel it lacked substance.

Is it just me is probably the question I am asking.

I agree John, I had the same thoughts reading the article. I was in two minds about posting the article but in the end decided that Laura deserved to be recognised here.

In my humble opinion Tamara, posting it was exactly the right thing to do, the young girl deserves the recognition, how ever i have a reputation for being a tad cynical, in fact my father was convinced i was born that way Smile so I am grateful it was not just my opinion.
