Fuerteventura, at the head of the growth in the arrival of international tourism this winter.
Fuerteventura is the island that will grow the most in the arrival of international tourists next winter season. According to the latest data provided by the Ministry of Tourism of the Canarian Government, the island foresees an increase of 47.5% in foreign tourism, while the Canarian average stands at 34%. This translates into the foreseeable arrival of 1,142,804 people to Fuerteventura, that is, 368,119 more tourists than during the winter 2019/2020.
The president of the Cabildo of Fuerteventura and the Tourist Board, Sergio Lloret, has valued the forecasts "as a very good tourist reactivation after a crisis that broke the economic engine of the island and that we have been alleviating with a lot of work to recover the tourism sector and with employment plans to maintain the economy of the island". The Minister of Tourism, Jessica de León explained that this is "excellent news and, although it makes us optimistic, it also forces us to be prudent because these are forecasts that may vary depending on the international situation, which is being complicated."
According to the data handled by the Ministry, the source markets where Fuerteventura will experience the greatest growth are Italy (+118.5%), the Netherlands (+90.6%), France (+63.6%), Germany (+55.8%), Belgium (+54.6%) and the United Kingdom (+43.8%), although the island is also growing in other destinations such as Ireland, Luxembourg, Austria and Portugal, a country with which Fuerteventura has begun to operate from this summer. "This increase, notable in some cases, is thanks to the promotional effort we have made in the different source markets, as well as through the co-marketing campaigns that we have developed with the help of different tour operators and tourism agents and whose fruits will begin to be noticed next season. In this sense it is important to highlight that Fuerteventura is consolidated as one of the winter destinations preferred by European tourists, "says de León.
Behind Fuerteventura are, according to the forecasts of the regional government, Lanzarote (+ 41%), Gran Canaria (+ 33.8%), Tenerife (+ 27.1%) and La Palma (+ 6.8%).
National tourism also grows next winter season on the island of Fuerteventura, being the third island where it grows the most (+ 45.1%), standing behind La Palma (158.6%) and Lanzarote (+ 51.9%). In total, the next winter campaign 2022/2023 is expected to bring to Fuerteventura a total of 1,348,508 tourists between national and international visitors.
