The Martina turtle - released in March 2018 on the beach of Cofete (Pájara) along with four other specimens of Caretta caretta with satellite transmitters attached to their shells - has surprised researchers, since in less than a year has been able of crossing the Atlantic from the Canary Islands until reaching the end of 2018 the waters of the American continent.
Martina is a female of her species, currently in the youth development phase, which was born on November 2, 2010 from eggs brought from the archipelago of Cape Verde, incubated on the beach of Cofete and after the spawning nursed in the nursery of turtles of Morro Jable; when the young Martina was released in Cofete, now a year ago, she had a weight of about 45.1 kilograms, as well as a carapace curve length of 73.2 centimetres.

The turtle Oasis Dream advanced first in a southerly direction along the African coast and then in a northerly direction until it entered the Mediterranean Sea, passing the coasts of Granada and Almeria , where it was sighted by divers; however, no Oasis Dream sign is received from September 15, 2018.
The turtle Tomás had advanced towards the south of the African coast and, at the end of December of 2018, was in waters to the south of the Western Sahara.
