So after being here for a few months, with my better half running down from the roof in excitement at spotting something new, we(she) bit the bullet and ordered a telescope.
The Canarias have some of the clearest skies and are often visited by astronomers from across the world. The Canarias are also home to some amazing observatories, large telescopes, and several institutes of Astro related subjects.
Being the tech and video guy I am, I dedicated about 12 hours to quickly researching what would fit our needs and requirements best.
In the end, we selected the CELESTRON ASTRO FI 5SC at a cost of 609€ and purchased the phone holder accessory for an additional 59€.
I decided on this model because it is motorized and can be controlled via a phone/tablet app, allowing you to use the app to virtually see what's in the sky, then simply selecting an object to zoom to.
We were also considering many other models, including manual ones priced around €200 - but decided that having an "easy to use" system would encourage us to use it significantly more.
I found a Canarian supplier and sticking with our "Buy Local" policy, we bit the bullet.
Should be here in a week so I will try to update then.
Anyone else here have a telescope or has been contemplating getting one?
