Where can I buy these fly covers for food?
#1
Last year I bought 2 fly covers that are brilliant and I desperately need some more as I am in the process of marzipanning and icing 15 Christmas Cakes! I have some mesh domes and some umbrella style ones but they are not nearly as good, not quite the right shape. I thought I bought them in Rocasa but I have tried Puerto del Rosario and Corralejo branches and no joy.
They are particularly useful as they have vertical sides and squash down flat for storage.
If anyone spots them please let me know - might be too late for this year but they'll be ready for the next season.

Tamara someone's waist line is going to be increased  Big Grin Big Grin

We have seen the umbrella ones in the new China Town but have a look next time in there for the ones you want.

By the way where do you buy your icing sugar?  Elaine needs some to ice our cake that we brought our with us and has been watered Wink Wink  well in the last few weeks, we looked in Mercadona and they  seem to only do small packets that appear quite expensive compared to UK

TIA

You can make your own icing sugar if the price difference to granulated sugar is too big. Simply place the sugar into blender, add a bit of corn flour (cornstarch) and blend it together until fine. Four or five minutes should be enough. Run your fingers through it and if it’s still a bit gritty, keep going.

Note: The cornstarch is quite important - it keeps the sugar dry. If you need only a bit of the icing sugar for one or couple of cakes you don't have to add it at all. If you're after getting for example the whole 1Kg bag, you should add about five tablespoons of cornflour (or Tapioca/Arrowroot flour). HTH

I've never seen them in Fuerteventura but will keep my eyes open. If you won't be able to get them on the island, there's loads of these pop-up mesh food covers Amazon and eBay.

Thanks all. Yes I've seen them on Amazon, was just hoping somewhere here had them, I like to buy locally if I can.

This year I bought my icing sugar in um, um, hmmmm, Lidl I think! I 've made it in the past but I can't be bothered now to be honest. The first few years we were here I had to make the marzipan as well and it just meant everything took so long ……. Luckily Lidl now stock that as well although it's not as good as I used to get in the UK (not as pliable).

[Image: pl2RKHu.jpg] 250g resealable bags but I can't recall the price.

BTW don't ever try to bring marzipan in your hand luggage - airport security nearly went ballistic and it all ended up in tears the bin!

It is probably funny looking back at it Tamara but I bet it wasn’t at the time. Visions of you surrounded by armed Police while they bring in the bomb squad for the “C4” spring to mind  Big Grin Big Grin

Just getting my own back for the clingfilm ??

Your review of the disHare shop reminded me of another shop in Puerto del Rosario, Rocasa. We've never been in but it's located opposite the launderette we sometimes use. Checking their website, I found the umbrella fly covers in two sizes but none of the other type. Closed the window in disappointment and started the search again. A few minutes later  I found the one you're after on a camping website.

It made me think: Are we all looking in the right type of shops?  Huh
