With the widest and most varied program in its history, this Thursday has been presented the 34th edition of the International Kite Festival that every year dyes the sky of Corralejo and El Cotillo with color.
Kites, many kites, but also music, theater, parades and children's entertainment. The International Kite Festival will be held from 11 to 14 November. On Thursday, November 11 at the beach of La Cocha, in El Cotillo, and on November 12, 13 and 14 at the beaches of El Dormidero and El Burro, in Corralejo.
"From the City Council we want to promote this festival that perfectly shows the qualities offered by our municipality to the visitor: a natural setting, with the ideal conditions for the practice of this hobby," said Pilar González, mayor of La Oliva.
The festival can also be followed through the new website www.corralejokitefest.com and on its social networks, where you can see live the flight of the kites and the best images.
The festival is not only evolving by adding new content, it has also opened a line of research so that this growth is consuming energy from renewable sources. "Since this edition we have tried to achieve this and we have realized that there are renewable energy systems of great capacity, also for home or maritime consumption, but not for ephemeral or temporary installations such as festivals. That is why we have started collaboration with companies in the sector and we want to add universities and technical schools so that as soon as possible, the festival is autonomous in that sense, "said the Councilor for Tourism, Commerce and Gastronomy, Celino Umpiérrez.
This year the program goes much further with the Wind Festival with activities for the whole family. On Saturday, November 13, between 11:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m., family workshops on kite making, environmental interpretation and renewable energies workshops are held, as well as a playground with bouncy castles. As well as the musical performance of the group 'La familia flotante'.
From 12:30 pm, parades of the giant three-headed dragon with batucada; at 1:30 p.m., band 'Artistas del Gremio' from Zaragoza, which will also perform that same night in the center of Corralejo.
Already on Sunday, November 14, from 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., family workshops on kite making, environmental interpretation and renewable energies will also be held. In addition, at 12:30 pm, performance of the 'Ruth and the Island Music' a tribute by Bob Marley and at 2:00 pm performance 'Banda Artistas del Gremio' of Zaragoza.
