The Cabildo of Fuerteventura, through the area of Culture, recovers the Fuerteventura in Music on the beach of La Concha (Cotillo). In its 16th edition, the FEM returns to the arena during the first weekend of July (July 1 and 2) with a lineup made up of a dozen artists, which will be announced soon.

The president of the Cabildo, Sergio Lloret, welcomes the return of this event and the return "little by little of the cultural activities that were postponed by the pandemic for the enjoyment of citizens and recovery of the economy that is generated around this type of festivals".

The Minister of Culture, Rayco León, highlights "the importance of the return of the great Events in which music and culture are socialized, now that the pandemic situation allows us to do so." To this is added the objective of the Ministry of Culture to boost the professional sector of the cultural industry.

The Cabildo collaborates with the City Council of La Oliva to bring the festival to this environment, which, as since its inception, will continue to have a vocation for environmental awareness.

La Concha Beach ready to receive Fuerteventura in Music.

It is an edition that promises to be very danceable and hopes to exceed the 8,000 people of 2019.

The Cabildo of Fuerteventura, through the Insular Area of Infrastructures, Planning, Roads and Territorial Planning directed by President Sergio Lloret López, has completed this week the works of adaptation of the soil and conditioning of the sand esplanade that will receive the next days 1 and 2 of July, after two years of pause due to the COVID pandemic, the Fuerteventura en Música (FEM) festival on the beach of La Concha (El Cotillo), in the municipality of La Oliva.

In this way, the countdown begins to receive again the iconic musical event, organized by the Culture area of the Island Corporation, directed by Rayco León, in collaboration with the City Council of La Oliva and the Government of the Canary Islands, and that in its last edition, held in July 2019, managed to bring together more than 8,000 people on the sand of La Concha beach.

This year, the festival seeks to revalidate its successes of previous years after the end of the pandemic and has everything ready, on the acclaimed beach of the municipality of La Oliva, to welcome an audience. The sounds of Asian Dub Foundation, Molotov Jukebox, La Chiva Gantiva, J.E.R.I & DJ CHK and dj. Karla León, better known as Sistah Vibes, on the first day, Friday, July 1, will kick off this event that has revolutionized the way of understanding music festivals in the Canary Islands.

On Saturday, July 2, it will be the turn of The Skatalites, Puerto Candelaria, The Grooves, Aceysele and Serial Killerz, with which the circle of a festival that will "give the note" will be closed through melodies that will run from the electric rock album, through Jamaican ska, reggae or black music, to rap or so many other sounds that mix and merge, in unique rhythms, totally indisting and of deep rooting with messages as essential in our times as feminism, ecology, anti-racism or the defense of cultural roots.

For all these reasons, the president of the Island Council of Fuerteventura, Sergio Lloret, wanted to highlight the "vindictive and heterogeneous character of this festival that allows us, at last, to gradually recover the cultural and leisure activities that the pandemic had taken from us and that, over the years, has managed to place Fuerteventura in the spotlight of culture and national and international tourism".

Around ten thousand people enjoyed Fuerteventura in Music 2022.

The Fuerteventura en Música festival returned this year to Playa de la Concha with a great success of attendance, with around ten thousand people between the two days of concerts. Yesterday, Saturday, the town of El Cotillo began to shine from the morning, with a program of activities that had high participation.

The Muellito was the busiest area, with a dedicated audience at performances by Mestura Jazz Band, Hey Cabón and their music for the soul, as well as the tribal drums of The ADD. Instruments from different cultures that converged during the morning and afternoon.

Nor were left behind the workshops of body percussion, African dance and afro jazz dance, which took place in the Plaza de El Cotillo and also had a high participation.

The Fuerteventura en Música festival did not forget its clear environmental vocation this year. La Concha Beach also hosted workshops during the day by the Marine Litter Observatory of the Ministry of Environmental Sustainability and Biosphere Reserve. The WEF also distributed 7,500 reusable cups to promote recycling and proper waste treatment.

The evening's concerts opened in Aceysele's mahobeat style. The majorera brought together several musical portents to perform their 'own songs' with all the power of electric instruments. Aceysele left the subtleties for more intimate concerts, presenting songs from his first album. Some songs that, according to Aceysele, he has composed during the pandemic, reinventing himself as an artist.

Then, it was the turn of the particular style and wild live of The Grooves, a band from Madrid composed entirely of women and that mix bases of electronic discorock rhythms with a section of winds and enveloping synthesizers. They presented the songs of their first LP in Spanish, HEROICA.

Later, the mythical The Skatalites came on the scene, who showed that they are an incombustible band as pioneers of Jamaican ska. Fans of this genre enjoyed the rhythms of the group, which is currently immersed in an international tour.

After the legendary Jamaicans, the stage of the WEF was filled with the color of the Puerto Candelaria. The cumbia, rock and jazz of the Colombians resonated on the beach of El Cotillo, with an overflowing audience that did not hesitate to dance to each of the songs proposed by the band. A great sound explosion that has crossed borders.

Finally, the music of the duo Serial Killerz served as the culmination of a FEM more anticipated than ever. They offered the public the most unusual mixes of musical genres, with themes from AC/DC, Ramones or Nina Simone.
The two nights of the FEM were also seasoned with the reggae style of Sistah Vibes, a Costa Rican DJ based in the Canary Islands who stands out for her selection of black music sounds mixed with electronic, afro, Latin or dancehall. The presentation of the groups was in charge of Alejandro Frey and Rebeca Tavares.
