The Cabildo de Fuerteventura, in its search for energy efficiency and sustainable development, will provide autonomous solar street lighting to the existing bike lane between the towns of Caleta de Fuste (La Guirra area) and Las Salinas del Carmen, a lane that runs through in parallel to the highway FV-2, within the municipality of Antigua. The Insular Corporation, through the Ministry of Industry, has put out to tender the installation works of the lighting for an amount amounting to 160,000 euros.
In this way, a total of 72 LED technology luminaires will be deployed that will provide a total power of 1,152 watts, equivalent to 16 watts for each of these devices. These luminaires are independent of the electrical network, so operating costs are reduced to a minimum and require less maintenance compared to conventional street lamps. With this technology, external cables are also eliminated, reducing the risk of accidents to a minimum, and being a non-polluting source of electricity.
"With the placement of autonomous solar luminaires will improve the uniformity, quality and efficiency of outdoor lighting in the area," explains the president of the Cabildo, Marcial Morales.
On the other hand, the councillor of the area, José Juan Herrera, affirms that "with these tasks, the Cabildo de Fuerteventura advances in its objective of achieving a sustainable and efficient island from the energy point of view".
Applications to participate in this bidding process must be submitted electronically through the Bidding Portal of the Cabildo de Fuerteventura before January 10, 2019.
The Cabildo, from the Ministry of Industry, has also recently installed 200 photovoltaic lights in different areas of the island, an action that was part of the first phase of the Rural Lighting Plan, complying with the parameters established by the Starlight Reserve and within the Strategic Plan for Energy Saving and Promotion of Renewable Energies of the Island Corporation.
