The Deputy of the Common, Rafael Yanes, met with members of the Persistent COVID Association of the Canary Islands, who presented 19 petitions to attend and improve the quality of life of people affected by persistent COVID in the Archipelago.

 

This Association was established in November 2021 and, currently, is made up of about 90 people, "but we know that in the Canary Islands there are between 40 and 50 thousand people affected by persistent COVID who are not recognized as such," they said.

 

The organization denounced that the Government of the Canary Islands does not register or diagnose these patients, "despite the fact that the WHO has already urged governments to code us with the code U09.9 of persistent COVID. We need the Government to speed up the Approach Plan, which should have already been presented in the Parliament of the Canary Islands."

 

The collective showed its regret at the lack of awareness and empathy that exists in society and in the health system regarding the recognition of this disease. "We go from doctor to doctor and since it is a relatively new disease, they do not believe us. We ask for neurocognitive assessments and there are no psychologists in health centers, we need physical and respiratory rehabilitation and most people with this disease have not received it or it takes up to two years to receive it."

 

Among other requests transferred by the Association, they also placed special emphasis on the training of health personnel, the streamlining of waiting lists to receive care from specialists, the comprehensive care of these patients through multidisciplinary units in the hospitals of the islands or the recognition of the degree of disability, among others.

 

Yanes said that, "from the Diputación del Común, we are very attentive to the media to capture if there are situations in which the rights of citizens may be violated. When we heard this particular case, it seemed important to us to meet with this group so that they could convey their complaints to us."

Because the local certificate is less detailed, I also took a PCR test yesterday (1/10) with results awaited.  Being impatient, I started to complete the PLF this morning, which has been validated with the vaccination details I entered.  What I don't know is if the validation was for typing in the correct details, or if it was validated from an external database, such as Spanish health records?  I don't want to get to the airport, to find I have to produce a certificate which is not accepted due to missing details.

If anyone has come across a similar, or related issue with their COVID certification, its validation, or airport checks, I'd appreciate your observations.
