Hello.

I've seen a lot of people asking about car sales, car hire, and car repair shops. That's why I want to personally recommend what I consider to be the best car repair shop in Fuerteventura.

It's a business in the town of El Matorral called Taller Fuercar Matorral, which was recommended to me by a friend from the golf course. They have reasonable prices, they solve your problems and they speak English. I had to get my car inspected, so I went to them and they did everything for me. The only downside is that you have to make an appointment, as they are always busy and if you go on the same day without warning, they usually can't help you.

Here is the link to their website where you can make appointments: https://www.tallerfuercar.com

Approval has been given for the new road between the Airport and Pozo Negro - https://ondafuerteventura.es/obras-publi...G31ZzC1cEA

The Ministry of Public Works, Housing, and Mobility of the Canary Islands Government, headed by Pablo Rodríguez, through the General Directorate of Road Infrastructure, has approved the project for the construction of the new section of the Puerto del Rosario – Morro Jable highway, between the Airport and the Pozo Negro intersection, in Fuerteventura. Public Works approves the project for the Airport-Pozo Negro highway section in Fuerteventura

The project, included in the 2018-2027 Canary Islands-State Road Agreement, will run between the municipalities of Puerto del Rosario and Antigua, and aims to connect and continue the island's North-South Axis, to improve mobility and strengthen road safety. The project is expected to be completed within five years, with a budget of €215.9 million, to be spread over several annual installments.

Councilor Pablo Rodríguez emphasized that "the new link will improve the connection between the airport, the main tourist areas, and urban centers in the center and south of Fuerteventura, contributing to the island's economic and social development, access to services, and the mobility of residents and visitors."

In this regard, he emphasized that "the section between the Airport and Pozo Negro will have a tunnel of more than one kilometer due to environmental conditions and is the first to be built in Fuerteventura. Therefore, this project will provide the island's network with modern and efficient infrastructure, promoting more sustainable mobility."

The bidding process will begin shortly, with the aim of publishing the tender on the bidding platform this year, after completing the necessary procedures.

The project

The initiative includes the construction of four main links: the Airport Link, which will connect with the FV-2 highway and serve the island's main air access point; the El Castillo Interchange, which will connect with the FV-413 to the tourist and urban centers of Caleta de Fuste, Triquivijate, and Antigua; the Las Salinas Interchange, which will maintain the connection with the current FV-2 and the southern part of Caleta de Fuste; and the Pozo Negro Roundabout, which will connect with the FV-50 towards Agua de Bueyes and Antigua.

These unique projects include the construction of a 1.2-kilometer-long tunnel, located between kilometer markers 9+230 and 10+430, which includes cut-and-cover tunnels at the beginning and end. A 190-meter viaduct will also be built in the Torre ravine; several structures will be planned at the Airport and El Castillo interchanges, as well as an overpass at Las Salinas and three underpasses to maintain the continuity of rural roads and access points.

Our car battery seems to have given up the ghost. It had been weak for some time, but as of this morning it was a complete non-starter, literally. Fortunately we were just considering a Sunday spin, but the worry of this happening at the side of the road versus at home with no an appointment pending makes me think I'd like to just get it replaced.

Anyone know anywhere in the Caleta/Mattoral/Antigua area likely to have one in stock over the next few days that we can purchase and install ourselves, or is it something likely to need to be ordered in? Or anyone have any recommendations on where to go for this?

Improvements to one of the most congested roads in Fuerteventura.

The Cabildo carries out road improvement work in the surroundings of Costa Antigua, Caleta de Fuste and Las Salinas del Carmen

The Cabildo de Fuerteventura, through the Ministry of Roads, is carrying out road surface rehabilitation works in the surroundings of Costa de Antigua, Caleta de Fuste and Las Salinas del Carmen. In this sense, Minister Blas Acosta explains that, with these continuous efforts, "the island corporation reiterates its commitment to the constant improvement of Fuerteventura's roads, contributing to safety and efficiency in transport".

On the FV-2 road, specifically in the section between the roundabout at the entrance to the industrial area of Costa de Antigua to Las Salinas del Carmen, the drainage ditch on the left bank of the road is being widened. This phase of the project involves the pouring of HM-20 mass concrete to strengthen the road infrastructure.

In the coming weeks, the asphalting of the road and the roundabout access to the industrial area of Costa de Antigua will also be carried out, with the forecast of concluding these works by the end of January or beginning of February. Likewise, work will begin to execute the underground drainage network in the surroundings of Caleta de Fuste, complementing the restitution of the existing ditch and the reinforcement of the curb.

In addition, as a complement to these works, a technical proposal is being developed to improve the connection junction of this area with the FV-2 road, with the aim of increasing the flow of traffic and reducing congestion, especially in certain time slots.

On the FV-20 road, work will resume next week on the surface rehabilitation of the road surface, which covers the section from Cuesta Pedrales to Tiscamanita. These works will include the installation of containment systems on the margins of the road, followed by the placement of new vertical signage that will improve orientation and destination in the surroundings of Agua de Bueyes and Tiscamanita.

Lack of taxis at the airport creates anxiety for tourists.

The first impression of the island from those who visit us is the absolute lack of transport service

Once again, taxi queues at the airport become the talk of social networks at European level when tourists upload their experience to networks such as Facebook or X (Twitter).

In this case, a family uploads the following message: "Paid for private transfer in Fuerteventura and directed to the taxi queue with a voucher. Big deal. No taxis !!!", in a direct complaint to @jet2tweets that goes viral in no time.

There are no solutions when it comes to taxis at the Majorero airport, which leads to accusations of fraud against certain companies that sell a transport voucher, but the truth is that there are no taxis to provide the service due at El Matorral airport.

If anyone knows anybody looking to shift a small, older car, please let me know? Don't want anything fancy and won't be using it for anything more than shopping runs.

The Cabildo of Fuerteventura, through the area of Works and Machinery, carries out work to improve the road that connects Corralejo with El Cotillo along the coast, in the municipality of La Oliva. The reception work began in mid-November and it is expected that next week "works that will benefit users with an improved and more efficient road route to access the area" will be completed, said the president of the Cabildo, Lola García, in a visit to the works.

For his part, the councillor of the area, Blas Acosta, highlights the importance of an action that is part of the work to improve the rural roads developed by this area of the Cabildo throughout the island territory. These tasks have been improved "with the recent incorporation of vehicles and machinery incorporated into the Cabildo for maintenance tasks, improvement of roads and other services and needs".

The island institution has added to the fleet a motor grader, two backhoes, two agricultural tractors and a roller, vehicles that have been operational since last November. "A renewal of machinery that increases its performance to perform tasks in the most effective way possible," added Acosta.

The Cabildo of Fuerteventura calls on the population to respect the partial closures of the road, so that the continuity of the work can be ensured, as well as the optimal progress of the works.
